Prilosec side effect?

I was taking one Prilosec a day for acid reflux but I developed a bleeding stomach ulcer so my GI increased my Prilosec to twice a day. My stomach is feeling better but since the increase I've been feeling slightly dizzy. Is this a common side effect for Prilosec? And if so, does it go away after a while?

Hi Sherry,

I've taken that dose of Prilosec, then Nexium, and finally Protonix for many years.  I'm one of those who didn't notice a single side effect.  Often, though, there can be an unrelated symptom that occurs coincidentally when we take a medication. 

Still, some do have side effects with PPIs, and hopefully one of those experts will be by very soon to share their experience and wisdom!

Some people do get the dizziness symptom. I got achiness in knees followed by tingling sensation all over in my body on prilosec.

www.askapatient.com is a good site to refer to for side effects and the efficacy of the various meds.

I'm supposed take 2 prilosec twice a day so 80mg total but I only take my morning dose. When my dosage was increased, I did notice more dizziness but it also could be from my other condition. My Hematologist thinks my bruising is a side effect of prilosec so I'm sure anything is possible.

Thanks for the replies...much appreciated! :) So it seems that I'm not alone then. I just hope the dizziness subsides. Do you suppose that all PPI's will cause the dizziness if Prilosec does?

I didn't have dizziness. But my GI said to stop taking it because it can cause hip fractures in women over fifty. At first, I wondered why he would mention that to me. He just stared at me and I realized I was 49 years and 6 months old.
