Bariatric is a specialist that deals with obesity, causes and treatment. There are some that do other surgeries such as the Linx for reflux. However you have to ask ALL the docs that you visit,--if I need surgery who would you recommend for your own family. Ask nurses and others who they recommend. When and if the time ever comes for surgery you wil be interviewing the surgeon themselves. How many have you done. How many we're successful. What kind of problems came up,. Would they arrange for you to talk to some of them. Check with your insurance company too. Ask, ask, ask lots of questions and write names and answers down. Ask why they picked a certain procedure for you. Will it be open or keyhole? Why? Check the license out with the State web site. Ours include complaints, judgements awarded by the courts and paid by malpractice insurance company. You can read the details without identification of patients name/address. Research every aspect as it is important for you. Get copies of all test results and start a file. Review results and ask questions. You will soon become an expert on YOU. Couchtater above listed the tests used to determine if you even qualify for surgery. It is a process and both you and the doctor himself must feel it is right. And that takes time and many appointments.
