Hi sammy,I was able to burp little burps immediately after the surgery, and worried that it might mean my wrap wasn't tight enough. The surgeon had told me I wouldn't be able to burp, but when I could, he said that it would be a benefit, and not to worry. You can burp out air/gas without allowing reflux throught the wrap. It was a big benefit.
Those who have trouble with bloating during recovery become gradually more comfortable--with less bloating as healing progresses.
In the beginning I always took BEANO before eating gassy veggies and it worked great. I'm 4 years post op, and get bloating VERY rarely...maybe once or twice a year.
The last time it was in August when I was celebrating my son's engagement with some champagne. Champagne is a no-no unless it's a small amout. I had two glasses! Anyway the bloating doesn't last that long. Once the gas moves into the lower GI tract it subsides, but it does escape out the back door!
No need to worry!
Take care,
Denise
