Any advice for a miserable newbie?

I currently cannot sleep except for almost in a sitting position and I have bloating and chest pain when eating. I am constantly woke up when I try to sleep from acid coming up.

This all started a few weeks ago with vomiting in the middle of the night, then I had episodes of waking up gasping for air that I thought were indicating sleep apnea. Then I began having pin in my chest and it got way worse any time I tried to eat. I ended up in the ER a few nights ago and came home with GERD diagnosis and an order to follow up with a reg physician.

I spent some hell of my life already with digestive issues surrounding gallstones and pancreatitis and still digestive issues after surgery to remove my gallbladder 3 years ago and this is really depressing. I can't sleep, I am having a hard time eating, I've lost 5 pounds in a week and a couple days.

I just don't understand how this came on and in three weeks time I went from feeling like a human being to having acid come up every time I fall asleep and living with this chest pain.

I'm trying to research the best things I can do, I've cut out anything in my diet I feel can irritate it but the big issue I guess is the acid coming up.

Maybe try some prilosec over the counter for a couple weeks and see if that helps. I am a mess myself....anxiety and gerd just doesn't mix. Just know this is treatable and I hope you feel better soon!

Also I'm sure you have read around but cut out all fatty foods, acidic foods, chocolate and peppermint!I also lifted my bed about 8 iches at the top so i sleep at an angle...I have some lpr symptoms also. Nerve wrecking to say the least! Good Luck!

I also don't have heartburn and had my gall bladder out 1 1/2 years ago and have IBS.

Today I had oatmeal, just a few spoonfulls and it feels like a lump stuck in the bottom of my breastbone area/top of my stomach. Is this common with anyone else? I worry about hernia or something going on and yes I have anxiety too, an anxiety disorder and this is really winding up the anxiety today. I feel short of breath and it feels like it's from the stomach thing going on but I can't rule out anxiety contributing.

The sensation is like someone has their fist shoved up into the top of my stomach.

Oatmeal is usually good for gerd, from what I hear. mMaybe you should get an app. with a GI doctor for an endoscopy procedure. They would be able to tell you whats going on inside your esoph. and stomach if you think it is needed and are very worried about it. Food getting stuck or slowly going down is something common with gerd too. Again from what I have experienced and have heard/read. Try to relax....I know all too well it's easier said than done. You might could get some support from the anxiety forum here also. I feel the need to head over there soon and probably post a very long post, the day is not a good one for me. I hope you feel better soon!

Thank you so much for your reply! This is so scary. I don't have any insurance, my husband just started a new job so we won't have it for 3 months and that's not helping either. I just can't stop crying today, the lack of food and sleep isn't helping. I may head over to check out the anxiety board. Sorry to hear you are having a hard day today too.

Have you tried any OTC such as Zantac or Prilosec? You can get them at the drug store.

I have not tried anything yet but the one nights does of meds in the ER it starts with a Z and mylanta and tums. I've also cut out just about every food and am sleeping (very little) almost sitting up. It still seems like every day it's getting more difficult to eat because of nausea, pain and the lump and pushing up type feeling in the top area of my stomach, it's like I have no volume to put food into. I was eating food fine and now I can't. Even if the sphincter is faulty I would think I should be able to ingest food without this, I'm so confused!

Prilosec OTC 20mg and 150 zantec helped me when I went through the bad times of my GERD and esophogitis. I took it the prilosec 1st thing in the morning and I ate oatmeal 30 min after taking it. Your not supposed to eat anything 30 min after taking it. If you dont have an appetite for oatmeal or anything, try eggs or egg whites. But if its serious, you will have to see a dr or GI specialist to give you a proper diagnosis and suggestion on meds.

I'm trying to find someone to make an appt with and pay cash. What did your symptoms feel like when they were that bad?

Update....Ok I got a Dr. appt for Monday so I have to try to hang in through the weekend now. Appreciate you guys helping me so much you have no idea!
