Thanks for your post. I have been off and on nexium for over ten years. It did help but it only lessened the symptoms. Since the atypical GERD just started up in August, I have been on NEXIUM for about
3 months. I did have a lot of coughing and didn't realize that it was GERD until I realized that it only happened when I was at my desk or in a sitting position. The coughing has stopped now but the sore throat remains.
With my heartburn symptoms, the biggest impact on whether or not I had symptoms in addition to the PPIs was wearing loose clothing so my stomach wasn't compressed, trying not to be at my desk too long and taking long walks after meals.
It may be a coincidence but my symptoms restarted after my dog died of old age. We used to go on long walks (45 min. to an hour) after every meal. After he passed, I stopped walking and my symptoms started about a month later. I also started spending more time at my desk. Who knows?
Good luck with your symptoms.
