I've smoked on and off for years. While I did notice a decrease in heartburn while nicotine-free, I was plagued by stomach ailments & still suffered with heartburn. I half-expected to feel 1,000% better after quitting, which wasn't the case. I even told my doctor flat-out that I felt miserable and was very frustrated (he wasn't very sympathetic, however). I've since resumed smoking again, and surprisingly feel much better stomach-wise. I think you should do what makes you feel best, regardless of what you read and what doctors say. It's YOUR health.
