Hi all,
I'm new here and glad to have found you! I'm scheduled for a nissen fundoplication in about
10 days. I've learned so much here that I'm confidant about
what and how to eat after the NF surgery. But I am on various medications for other illnesses and wondering how I'll be able to take my daily handful of pills after the surgery.
Do I cut them up? Thank you for any help! And I hope you are all feeling well.

Welcome to Healing Well.
I was able to take my pills whole after all 3 of my nissens. I just drank a small amount of water first and then made sure to follow up with a couple drinks to be sure they went through. Take them one at a time.
Take care,
Bill

Thank you Bill, that is good to know.
3 nissens?! Is that normal? Should I expect that as well?

I think Dencha mentions crushing tablets and swallowing with apple sauce?

I could take my pills fine after my nissens also. If you have to, you can crush some but not all. I'd ask your dr what ones can or can't be crushed.

I couldn't swallow pills after my surgery, but I could only swallow small ones before it. I got prescript
ions for liquid pain meds, and meds for constipation. I got advice on which meds to stop for a while and which could be crushed. Since you get meds for other conditions, ask those doctors about
crushing or getting a liquid. I put the crushed ones in my liquids and later, when I was allowed soft foods, in applesauce and yogurt.
Put this on your list to take with you to the surgery. They won't write prescript
ions for anything until you leave the hospital!
Just in case - get a cheap pill crusher at any pharmacy.

Thank you everyone. I'll definitely get a pill crusher! Good idea.

Besides using the pill crusher, I also put my pills in juice and let them sit for a while to dissolve.

No 3 nissens isn't the norm. I am a rather shall we say, "special" case.
Here is my story if you wish to read it.

Dissolving in juice! Another good idea, thanks Summer.
Bill, I read your story. I'm SO glad there was a happy ending. You endured more than anyone should ever have to! But delighted to read that it's finally turned out so well.
Thank you so much. I've been freaking OUT over this surgery but spent time talking with the surgeon yesterday and I feel more comfortable now. He has done several hundred and tells me I'm the "perfect" candidate for this surgery and that all my GERD symptoms will disappear after it. That will be wonderful!
