Gastritis and GERD

I need some help here!

I've been having gastritis for the past 6 weeks. Doctor prescribed me omeprazole and antacids. However, when I took omeprazole I would get anxiety attacks so I stopped. And recently it seems that my GERD is also getting worse.

My main symptoms are:

Loss of appetite
Loss of weight
Some difficulty swallowing food (May be due to acid)
Gurgling in stomach
Hunger pangs
Anxiety
Fatigue especially after food

As I have anxiety disorder, I could not figure if my anxiety is from the meds or purely psychological. I have a fear of taking meds ever since I get horrible panic attacks from anti-depressants. Am scheduled for endoscopy on 28 Mar (very scared but I have to do it).

Anyone with the same experience? I never have gastric problem for such a long period of time!

I too have gastritis/gerd/anxiety and i find the only thing that i have been able to take that actually works and doesn't cause anxiety is otc Zegerid. Everything else. prilosec,pepcid and even zantac triggered my anxiety issues. All of your symptoms are similar to mine as well so i hope this helps.

Evelyn, I know exactly how you feel because I went through the same thing just couple of weeks ago. I was scared to death about my symptoms and terrified of the endoscopy. Everything went ok and I was diagnosed with gastritis, possibly caused by h. Pylori. After knowing why was feeling so horrible, my anxiety started to subside bit by bit. Now my appetite is almost normal and I am much better. I am not 100% by any means but it did get better. Chances are things will get better for you too.

Dont be scared off the endoscopy. The peace of mind you'll have afterwards can do wonders. Good luck.
