Hi Barry,
Thanks for responding.
Here is how it all came about. Around 2+ years ago, I started getting sick, as in nausea, chills, vomiting, diarrhea when I would eat out at various restaurants. At first. I thought it was coincidence. It was all intermittent until last year when I became sick again only after eating out. My docs thought that the PPI (Protonix at the time) was making me more susceptible to gastric infections - see here:

When I "recovered" from the last two bouts of this "symdrome," I never felt totally well again. At that point I was switched to Dexilant, 60 Mg, QD due to the GERD after another round of esopageal manomety and pH/impedence testing indicated that I needed a stronger, longer lasting, PPI.
Something was making me feel lousy, leaving me with a low grade, dull, nauseous ache in primarily in the lower abdomen. I still have an appetite, but really just want to lay in bed. I have had an upper and lower endoscopy, MRI enterography, stool samples, among other tests which came back totally normal. No h.pylori or c.difficile.
The only thing that came back positive was a hydrogen breath test for small intestinal bacteria. I was placed on a very potent (and expensive!) antibiotic, with no luck. In time, the nausea reduced and I went on with my usual daily life and just waited for the day to end so I could crawl into bed.
2 weeks ago, the discomfort became somewhat more pronounced, for no apparent reason. I have not been dining out and have been watching my diet so as not to introduce trigger foods, as mentioned above. My doctor prescribed 8 Mg of Zofran PRN and that really did not help much, so I stopped it.
Very weird. I just feel lousy and can't pinpoint the cause. My GI doc is smart, but on this aspect, clueless.
I will call him again, but I just want to see if anyone else is going (or has gone) through this.
GM
