My hernia was paraesophageal, stomach in my chest all the time, and that hurt horribly. I wouldn't be surprised if a good-size slider could be quite painful too. At least you have a doctor who believes you have a problem. I'd trust him.
Do you have enough symptoms to consider surgery? Have you had any other tests done? Barium swallow is not painful or invasive and would show how much of the stomach gets above the diaphragm.
waiting to do a ph 24 test to confirm acid coming up then he will be willing to discuss possible surgery
he doesnt want to get into too much before hand without confirming especially since my hernia isnt that big
