Hi,
I find the comments about
the lung problems very interesting. Over the past year, I have had period of extreme shortness of breath for no reason. Other times I am fine. Now I see that my reflux may be the problem.

Hi Jimw1961,
I can relate. I was just diagnosed with a mild lung condition myself that is a form of COPD. Very scary! But my docs still don't conclude its my reflux. But in my heart, I know it is! Fortunately it's not severe.

Well, not quite what I had expected. He had not reviewed ANY of my records as I had hoped for since my case is a bit difficult. He was down to earth and nice but very busy. He performed an EGD and said I had a hernia which I had NEVER been told I have after many EGD's and barium swallows by my Birmingham docs. He did explain that the hernia I have is easy to miss with certain scopes though. Apparently, the LES is
open, but all my manometries (and I've had many) do show pressure. I'm still in a state of confusion as to what to do. I know I have a problem with non acid reflux that is most likely affecting my lungs now, but I'm so scared of surgery. I don't have any doubt that Bagnato would be an excellent surgeon should I decide to go ahead with the Hill procedure which is his expertise. But with my air swallowing (aerophagia) and chronic burping, I have been warned of gas bloat and swallowing problems which he confirmed. I guess you might say I'm doomed if I do and doomed if I don't. Also, I'm a small person only weighing 117 lbs and can't afford to loose all the post op weight people are loosing from reflux surgeries. I'm probably over thinking a lot of this and being very over protective of myself but Mu case is not the average cut and dry reflux case. I plan to speak with Bagnato again over the phone once I get my records and go over everything again and then decide what to do. suprisingly mu Pulmonary doc doesn't want me to do surgery but I will probably do it if I can ever get my courage.
