Hi Tarachriso,I had my surgery four years ago, and for the life of me, I can't remember exactly how when I had my first drink post op. I do remember that in the beginning I was very careful, trying a small amount to see if I could tolerate it, and going from there.
I do know that I was drinking beer at around the 4 month mark, as we went on vacation. I was concerned that beer would be a no-no due to carbonation, but felt comfortable drinking it because an acquaintance who had the surgery a few years before me told me that beer was fine, as it has "natural carbonation", unlike soda. I didn't drink soda for a long time, but do drink it now. I'm not a huge soda drinker, but I'll have two or three glasses of it when out with no trouble.
I did have a bad bloat problem after drinking two glasses of champagne to celebrate my son's engagement. I guess champagne carbonation is just too aggressive.
So take it slow and gradual until you know what you can tolerate. Good luck!
Cheers!
Denise
