Burping before fundo/linx fixed by fundo/linx?

Has anyone had constant belching problems before any of their surgeries? And if so, did it get fixed, or at least improve with surgery?

Hi Ben. Welcome to the forum.

You wouldn't want to get surgery just to "fix" belching. It will stop it, but then the air has to go on through the GI tract and you'll just have pain lasting longer.

I would be asking my doctor why am I belching continuously? Is it from constantly swallowing? Some antacids could react with the stomach acid to form gas.

Do you have another reason for wanting the surgery?

no I have constant belching and heartburn/LPR. a HH causes constant belching and was wondering if people had this problem resolved when they had surgery. I am looking to get the LINX surgery, but there are far more people with the fundo and was wondering if fixing the LES (which both the fundo and LINX do in different ways) addresses my issue of burping constantly. This is where a lot of my acid comes from and I have tried everything

I never associated my burping with reflux symptoms, but I did burp a LOT (120+ times/day) before fundo, now hardly at all. Same amount of swallowing as before. I had a small HH.

Well, a HH is directly related to an increase in belching. I seem to burp up acid/stomach juices sometimes. This is why I ask, because if I address the HH I wonder if it would also fix the belching. Do you have an increase in gas since the fundo?

I do seem to have extra flatulence which is bothersome. And sometimes, usually in the afternoons, I'll feel as if I need to have a bowel movement.. I'll go sit down, and nothing but a bunch of gas comes out. Sorry for the details on that, but it's a real side effect that I never had before the fundo. I've read of others having, but have not myself experienced, accidental farting. Hope that trend continues.

I've also read that post fundo, the flatulence tends to go away within a few months. I'm over 3 months out now and it's still there, so I guess I'll be patient or live with it. I am going to pick up some gas-prevention enzyme tomorrow to see if it helps that "needing to go" feeling I seem to have after lunch.

It does beat nearly belching though, especially in tight quarters with other people around.

As I mentioned above, I do not believe in all cases that belching is related to swallowing air as some doctors and many websites will tell you. Post fundo I had an uptick in my swallowing rate due to a globus sensation, and I belch maybe 5-10 times a day -- and I have to "manually" belch if that makes sense, it's not like more automatic gas release as was before fundo. So I am swallowing ~25% more, but belching 12 times less. I.e... no connection.
