Hello,

I was diagnosed with GERD after an upper endoscopy this past November. I have been battling severe nausea since around October. Generally, it is made worse with unforeseen stress and has caused me to vomit on the spot before. I am currently on Dexilant and ondansetron. The nausea seems to originate from both the back of the throat and my stomach. My stomach generally feels full and I have a lot of gas.

Is there anything I can potentially do to easy my symptoms? I am 21 years old.

Have you tried a PPI or something like over the counter zantac?  I don't have gerd but have gastritis and also get constant nausea.  It's awful.  My GI did prescribe ondansetron to take 3 times a day.  I find it helps ease the nausea but it's short lived and comes back.  I just started tecta and my nausea is mostly gone (am going away this weekened so will be eating in restaurants wtih heavy unhealthy food so suspect issues will come back).  Unfortunately there are also side effects of PPIs and zantac also upsets my stomach but everyone is different and for me, I'd rather have the stomach discomfort than the nausea.

I've got an assortment of digestive issues and suffer frequently from severe nausea as well. For me, the ondasteron did not work; my doctor switched me to Promethazine 25mg starting with one pill, then moving to two pills. This helps for times when I feel the nausea coming on. For times when I am on the brink of getting sick with no warning, the doctor has prescribed a form of ondasteron that works immediately -- it is a small pill you put under your tongue and it dissolves pretty quickly.

Good luck. See if you can keep a food journal and after a few weeks, evaluate it to see if a particular food, or amount of food, is causing your vomiting when you are under stress.

Good Morning,

I recently went through 6 months of chemo and was premedicated with Ondansetron HCL and given 8mg tabs to use at home.  I did not have good luck with this drug either.

My oncologist switched my nausea med to Prochlorperazine 10mg  tabs every 6 hours as needed and this medication worked much better for me. For premed I was given Aloxi IV. ALOXI (palonosetron hydrochloride) is a long acting (48 hours) antiemetic and antinauseant agent used primarily for people on chemo.  

Each of us is different and there are many choices available for you DR. to choose from so please do contact him and explain how nauseated you are.  Nobody should have to go through this all day long.  I understand your problems and hope you will find something that helps.

I have gastroparesis, I take erththromycin and pepto bismal for my nausea. It seems to help.
