I am a young adult in my 20's struggling with GERD. I've had trouble controlling it with PPI's, so I'm looking for other options. One of my concerns is that I'd like to get pregnant within the next few years. Has anyone gotten pregnant after having any of the GERD surgeries? I'm nervous to be pregnant and face an increase in symptoms that already drive me crazy. I also don't want to go through surgery and have pregnancy negatively impact the procedure. Any thoughts?

I'm in the same boat :( Have Gerd for a couple of months currently trying to control it with lifestyle changes, but I'm worried cuz I want to get pregnant in the next couple of years and I'm scared of acid reflux symptoms..Likewise I can't even now control myself over the symptoms imagine getting pregnant! So I'm waiting for answers /thoughts as well!

I had nissen fundoplication in September last year and my surgeon told me that as long as I waited 6 weeks post op before trying to conceive there should be no problems at all. We're going to try for our second child (1st was pre surgery) later this year so I'll keep you posted! X

Thanks LouF! Best of luck to your family. Did you have gerd prior to your first pregnancy? Friends of mine with no gerd had some pretty miserable reflux during pregnancy. I can't imagine the fate of us gerd ladies during pregnancy!

I can't speak for myself of course, but my wife did have crazy reflux during pregnancy with both our kids. It went away afterwards for her though and she only has what I'd call "normal" reflux today.

I was on esomeprazole for GERD prior to my first pregnancy. I was taking esomeprazole before hand but I switched to omeprazole as there was more safety data about its use in pregnancy. I stayed on my usual dosage throughout and ironically I didn't suffer from the GERD any worse then usual. I have to say though, the nissen fundoplication is the best thing I've ever done. If you can do it ahead of pregnancy personally I'd recommend it.
