Yep, I was 2 weeks after you.

With water, everything goes down, but my eso's strength is the lower end of normal. So, I guess it will stay this way for a while.

Breathing, no one is giving me hope at the moment.. wait and watch right now.

I've noticed that you referenced your esophagus strength to be on the low-normal side. If you know? When you had your manometry how many effective swallows did you have out of 10?

UPDATE: 1 YEAR 1 MONTH

It's about time for an update! Sorry that I haven't been posting as much but I try to stay active in the Facebook LINX group.

I still don't have any heartburn. No more sore throats, no coughing, no reflux, much less migraines, IBS symptoms have gone away about 80%. Pretty much every symptom has either totally gone away or close to it.

I am still 100% happy with my LINX decision and am so glad I did it. I can eat anything I want. I love spicy and fried foods. None have given me heartburn. I'm currently eating chili with extra hot sauce... I eat this about once a week (it's a Cincinnati place called Skyline Chili).

Swallowing has gotten MUCH better. Sometimes it feels like my horse pill vitamin gets a little stuck but I drink more water and it helps. It doesn't hurt at all anymore at least!

Only complaint is the gas problem. I assume since I can't burp as often that is why the gas builds up in my stomach. It can end up hurting crazy bad because it doesn't pass through my stomach and intestines but eventually dissipates. I now just take Beano before every meal and everything is fine. (Side Note: Gas-X doesn't do anything, never has.)

i would like to thank you for kindly posting your journey , it has been an inspiration for me . I have been dealing with acid reflux since i was 13 years old and has gotten worse the past two years. I am basically at a point where i need to have a surgery . i have been up all night and have to go to work in a few, this is not the first time that this happened. I am close to Ohio and i was thinking about seeing the same doctor you have, DR.Paul Taiganides. I have been searching about this procedure for a while, and thanks to your post i now know which doctor to trust. I am planning on calling tomorrow to arrange for an appointment. And yes, i will have to drive 3 hours to see him just like you did. Please keep me us updated , i would love to know where you stand now .

BTW, the link you gave with pictures of your surgery has other pictures in them that are accessible to the public.

one more question, does the Linx interfere with heavy exercising ?

MoJo - I'm glad my journal helps you! I've had a lot of people thank me for writing this - which makes me so glad I did! I tried to share everything I could (no matter how embarrassing) because I wanted to be as open as possible!

Dr. Taiganides is great - I trust him 100% and can't recommend him enough. When you see him tell him Amy Plaza says hello!

So far I am still doing great. I'm actually 13 weeks pregnant now and have had some heartburn here and there but a couple of Tums takes care of it (which, that used to NEVER work)... also it's different. It's just burning in my stomach under the LINX, not how it used to be in the esophagus. Don't let this deter you (or anyone) because it's normal with pregnancy and not bad like it used to be.

I exercised a lot before I got pregnant and never had any issues. I thought I had at one point but it was just gas build up LOL

I don't mind if people can see my other pictures on Photobucket, there isn't anything to hide. The only reason I put a password on the LINX ones is that I would feel bad if someone didn't want to see gory pictures and I forced them to see them - so a password helps :)

I like many others have had a common complication from the LINX called pooling which is where food and or liquid pool right above the LINX because the esophagus cannot push things through. This is often caused by excess scar tissue which builds up and becomes obstructive several weeks to several months after the surgery. Dilation is often attempted but more often than not provides only short-term relief and is often repeated until removal is eventually required when esophageal motility becomes so compromised that frequent spasms, chest pain, and food getting stuck result on an ongoing basis. Many people have suffered this underreported and poorly studied side effect, and some have had to get the device removed and suffered permanent esophageal motility loss.
