Bill,

I know members come and go from time to time, I was just hoping he would return soon. His post interested me because he was dealing with all this without ppis and I was wondering how he was doing. Anyways I hope for his sake he got his wings (got better) and just thought it was time to leave the nest.

I checked his profile and last posted on 1/28. Was starting PPIs then I think.

I must have missed this post! I occasionally peek in here at HW .. but more like couple of times a month or so .

Today - I was searching for something else when I landed on this post!

Thanks for asking about me ... yes I've continued to feel better on the PPIs. I am on 20mg Aciphex / day. If I skip a day or two I get the symptoms back. On 20mg Aciphex my symptoms are 90% under control. I've even started to indulge in some: coffee, wine and cocktails!

I am not sure what the implications of taking PPIs long term really are. May be my bones will go brittle sooner. However, I am so thankful that they've been able to provide so much relief to me!

Wishing each one of you is able to find a way to deal with your symptoms and be able to tame this beast!

PS:
On another note - my LDL has increased - Ha! It runs in my family and I am getting older .. so don't think it is related to GERD! Cutting down on meats, cheese, eggs etc. will be good for me from both GERD as well as chloestrol point of view!

that's exactly what will happen is your bones will end up getting brittle over time. I had acid reflux for probably 10 years and recently got the TIF procedure so I didn't have to keep taking medication like PPI's the rest of my life. You can read my journal entry called 7 weeks post TIF to see what I went through so far. I feel really good that I did that. For cholesterol you might want to try taking a high quality fish oil which has really helped me to manage my cholesterol.

I have just been diagnosed with Barrett's. Also gastritis of the stomach. PPI's don't seem to help much. Manometry test says i have a weak LES and a weak esophagus. Symptoms include burning of throat and mouth, lump in throat, regurgitating everything (inc water), cheat pain and pressure. the burning happens pretty much all the time.

getting 24 hour PH and gastrin level checked too.

any insight would be great.
