Yes, I know, this is a stupid question... But I am really confused and think I don't understand properly all this stuff. If you are on PPI should you follow the diet (I mean strict diet)? How does this thing work?
After my endoscope GI said I have a small hiatal hernia and mild reflux with minimum esofageal damage. His suggestion was to stop using medicine, relaxing and enjoying life.
I've followed the Kaufman diet (very strict) and was on PPI for three months, felt almost OK (excluding throat problems), switched from PPI to H2Blockers (max dose), had terrible acid rebound and my doc put me on PPI again because H2Blockers didn't work for me and low dose of PPI didn't work too ... :-(
I've lost a lot of weight in 4 months Kaufman diet and I do not want to loose more weight, and really don't know how, because when I am on low fat diet I feel almost OK but I want to stabilize my weight too. Can I "cheat a little bit" with this low fat/low acid diet? For example, can I eat lean pork/beef 1-2 times a week instead of eating poultry months after months? Dietitian said to eat more nuts, beans, potato, pasta, avocado etc... I do not eat after 6-7 РМ and do not want to give up this healthy habit.
Is this true that if you are on PPI it does not matter what exactly you eat?
Any suggestions? Thanks.

Eve though you are on a PPI you should still watch what you eat. I mean as for acidic or trigger foods. I am not too familiar with the diet you are on. As for the rebound. If you wish to stop the PPI and control it with the diet you are on you have to get through the rebound period. It does get better, but takes a little while. Some have used things such as carafate or gaviscon to get through the rebound period. Also instead of just stopping the PPI try tapering off of it. This usually helps with the rebound also.

opnwhl4, thank you for your respond. Probably I was wrong coming back to PPI, but this rebound was terrible. May be I'll give one more try, don't know yet. Loosing too much weight scares me for know. Soon I'll be doing more tests like colonoscopy (don't know the exact date), CT chest, abdominal ultrasound, etc...
All this affects my mood and give me more and more stress... I go around and there is no results for now...

If you do try to stop the PPIs do the taper off as it seems to be the best way. It's very hard, but try to limit your stress as well. It really effects the reflux badly.

My rebound lasted approx 6 weeks. I think I'm finally coming out of it (I hope). Yes, it was hell!

I have been on and off ppi's for about 15 yrs, however I took them daily over the last 2 yrs. Not sure I'd ever go back on them, as I choose to try to control symptoms with diet, supplements, tums, carafate and somtimes zantac.
