GERD/LPR Diet studies -funding?

I'm just thinking out loud ... There's been a lot of mentions of 'crowd sourcing' in the media lately. That's where funds to support an idea or cause are solicited from a large group of people, usually on-line communities. Wouldn't it be great to have a scientific study conducted on GERD/LPR diets that would compare the various diets (the GERD diet, Fast Tract, Kaufman, etc) to see what effects, if any, each diet had on symptoms? I realize the cost to conduct such a study would be in the $100,000 + range , if you wanted it conducted in a way that the results were publishable. There must be established research communities that look at GERD/LPR and diet. Maybe if we all chipped in a few bucks we could help fund a study that would give us more insight on what impact diets have on our various symptoms. I'd gladly contribute to such a study.

Are there any research folks on this forum? Is this such a crazy idea?

I believe there are many underlying causes for GERD. What diet is beneficial would probably be related to the cause.

As much time as I've spent trying learn about GERD, the overview baffles me. "They" say that the definition of GERD is that the LES is no longer functioning properly, and it will never return to normal. So why am I so much better than two years ago? At that time, I had terrible chest pain from esophageal spasms. On meds I developed a terrible cough, that took my voice away. Some of that chest pain returned during my rebound coming off PPI's. I followed the Koufman diet with meds for a year, and Fast Tract without meds for three months. These diets are pretty opposite, the first being low acid and low fat, and the second a lower carb, highly digestible diet. Now I eat pretty normally, keeping meals small. I now take a TUMS, which relieves occasional burning after eating.

I believe all the resources you need are right here in this gerd forum. We all seem to be further along as a case study group than any dr. If you had the time to graph all the methods ppl use that have worked or not, it's all right here in the thousand's of post.
