How does everyone cope with these throat problems?

I have been sick since sept plus had the throat problems since march.  The throat problems are by far the hardest thing to cope with in my opinion.  Any advice.  I am very depressed.  Never was depressed a day in my life before this.  Thanks

The best thing I have found to cope is to have a good support group whether it be here, at home, or both. Also we have to come to terms with this disease. Once we realize it is what it is we can start to figure out what we need to do to ease our symptoms and find the best doctor to help us with those symptoms.
With having a failed surgery and a torn esophagus I have learned that patience and taking things one day at a time is very important. If you fret over the things you can't control it will really get you down. If it gets to bad don't be afraid to ask for help with the depression or anxiety either. The combination of these will make things worse.

Bill,    thats good advice.   I wish i had never had the Bravo probe done.  I wouldnt be having the throat symptoms and i wouldnt be on ativan for the globus sensation.  I was already having enough health problems before that.  How did your esophagus get torn and how did they fix that?   I have to have another endoscopy to look for damage in my esophagus from the Bravo probe

My worst throat symptoms in order are globus phrayngeus which is driving me insane, sore larynx, hoarse voice, or painful voice, or no voice at all and excess mucus.  All of which are like a water drop torture to the forehead

It's very easy to get depressed with this disease. Things change so fast and such strange things happen to us. One day you are happy and healthy and the next your life is spinning out of control.

You are one tough human being. Amazing story that i will never forget. God bless you and thanks for sharing. p.s. i have a follow up endoscopy to look for damage from the first endoscopy. Now i am wondering if this is a good idea.

What you have to remember with me is that I had over 13 EGDS with dilation and probably over 20 EGDs total before this happened. Between the years of reflux and all the dilations, of which about 11 were in a 5 month window, my esophagus was most likely weakened. Mt GI didn't even know he did it and I showed no signs while in recovery.

If there is any question about the 1st EGD a 2nd one would be a good idea. Without having all the damage I had there should be no issues for you to have the 2nd EGD.
I have had several EGDs since the tear without incidence. Of course I do make sure the doctor knows my history ahead of time, LOL!

Ok thanks, that makes me feel better. Im pretty nervous about my situation. Hoping they can figure out what is wrong with my throat. I dont want to take neurontin or tramadol for irritable larynx and i tried the 24 hour empendence test but they couldnt get the measuring tube thru my broken nose

I have had my throat problem since oct 2012.. something sticky fluid stuck on my throat specially when im lying down .. check with doctor last january, diagnosed w/ goiter and given thyroxin for 1 month, i tried to seek help to other doctor and told me i have allergy so he gave me meds for allergy but nothing seems to happen , i still feel the same. so stressful and im so depressed , i dont like how it feels.. last thursday i was brought to hospital and the doctor told me i have Gerd, they give me omeprazole for 7 days.. as i try to research about GERD in the internet, i follow not to eat so much and i dont lie down after eating.. i quit coffee, sour and spicy food.. i eat often but small amount.. it helps a little but its still there.. im now looking forward to find out what herbal medicine to take, because taking pills, medicine over the counter worsen the feeling..

Sorry I missed your reply.

I had all the dilations because I was still having a terrible time getting food to pass through the wrap. They didn't see anything on the ct or barium swallows except it hung up. Finally a different surgeon did an exploratory surgery and found my wrap was done wrong and no amount of dilations would have fixed it.
That's when I had the 1st redo.
