Hello everyone. I'm currently going nuts here due to my GERD symptoms not changing after being on Nexium for 5 months. I was on prilosec and prevacid the first 7 months, but those didn't help too much. Sure, Its better than what it was a year ago, but this constant feeling is making me go nutty, and trying zantac and pepcid ac on the side does nothing. I feel like a druggie lol.
For people that the listed drugs didn't work, what others did you try and had some decent changes? I see Dexilant on older posts, but the side effects scare me--2 percent for some of them seems a bit "high" (drugs.com). I Want to try something before I consider a different option-surgery. =[
But how bad does it have to be to consider it? My symptoms are burning/discomfort (feels like something is stuck in my throat now after taking nexium) where my esophagus/stomach connects. Its not unbearable where I can't sleep. I can eat an okay amount of food; i was 6'0 185lbs prior to GERD..now I'm hovering around 170 (been like this for last 6 months)..so I'm doing "okay" here. But I have a feeling I will keep getting strictures too, since my endoscopy check up a month ago (after a year) showed my esophagus narrowing again--and afraid of getting barrets.
I'm planning to go to another GI (had another forum post, where my ex-GI was a drug pusher =P..no real suggestion, and did not do tests.."except stay on PPI and continue your diet"..THANKS. maybe I should have trusted those 2.5 star reviews on Yelp..lol) to hopefully to get tests done sometime in the next 2 weeks..to see what the f is going on with me, and see what options are available to me. But I'm pretty sure its acid reflux, since when I lay flat on my back I can feel the acid move up lol (empty stomach). I thought it could be bile reflux due to the polyp growth in my gallbladder, but 6 month ultrasound check up found it to be "healthy"; hope it stays healthy and the polyp doesn't grow..afraid to take my gallbladder out due to bile reflux >.<
Thanks in advance..and sorry for my long post.
