Bill or Denise,

I have a question for you two fundo experts. I just returned from my morning walk and took a swallow of water as I was sitting down at my desk. The next thing I know a burp escape. It terrified me at first because I did not expect it since I have been unable to burp for over a week. I have not had hardly any pain today and feel almost normal. Could my wrap have already failed?

To be honest, I would was getting use to not burping and it gave me reassurance that my wrap was intact. Now I am so worried. Any words of wisdom are welcome. Many thanks in advance.

Hi txman,

Don't worry...CELEBRATE! yeah yeah yeah Being able to burp is a wonderful thing, and definitely doesn't mean your wrap is a failure.  Like you, I worried that burps were bad and meant that my surgery had failed.  I talked about it with my surgeon (who had warned me that I couldn't burp or vomit after my surgery--and I've done both) and he said it was a bonus that I was able to burp.  You won't have nearly as much trouble with bloating, which is a VERY good thing!

Rob,

I'm envious! I'm a few days short of 4 months into my wrap and I still can't burp. You have no idea how much I'd love to be able to so, celebrate this win!

I can burp to ,I did the night of surgery I told my surgeon when he came to see me that night he said I am lucky,
I'm glad I can burp I imagine the trapped wind and bloating would be worse

Ali and Tony,

My burps are infrequent but welcome during my recovery. Do not get me wrong, these are not Animal House type burps, but more like a burp you might experience from a formal tea party. I wil take what I can get though.

I always describe it as my stomach burping itself. When I started out I only got little burps--it actually started while I was in the hospital. Even today my stomach is in charge when it comes to burps. At this point, they can be pretty loud at times! They're always welcome, though. When I say "Excuse me!", my husband says, "I hope so!" He doesn't understand just how welcome burps are when you've been wrapped!
