What is title of a surgeon that specializes in doing Nissen Fundo's?

Hi Everyone,

Just doing some research on potential surgeons for the future and I'm having a hart time finding exactly what I'm looking for. Most of the Surgeons I find that do the NF are General surgeons?? That doesn't sound right to me.

I want to search more specific than a General Surgeon. Any feedback would be great, especially if in Toronto, Ontario.

My doc is a thoracic surgeon, he has done over 1500 nissens via 5 tiny incisions in the belly. Find the best in your area, typically found at a university teaching hospital. Good luck!

My surgeon is thoracic. Since I had paraesophageal hernia = stomach stuck partly in chest = I couldn't see anyone less qualified. There was a chance or having to do the surgery open or through the chest, depending on what they found.

For my more complicated surgery the surgical team had to go up into the chest and cut around the esophagus to pull it down enough to do the wrap.

Later, after some events that caused some more herniation, I have found a general surgeon who specializes is weight loss surgeries and whom I would trust to do a simple diaphragm repair. I can't do any more surgeries right now. Maybe if it gets worse.

Since Nissen is complicated, I would be looking at the whole team, not just the one surgeon. If there is no team I'd go looking elsewhere.

I'm not so sure sutures aren't good enough. Depends on how they are done and what type/size.

My original HH repair from 6/09 has held up through 2 nissen redoes and an esophagus tear repair with a stent that tore my wrap completely apart. Along with some severe dry heaves along the way. They were also put in by a surgeon who did an incorrect nissen on me that had to redone.

I was told by the last 6 surgeons who have had their hands in my belly/chest that the old synthetic mesh has been causing problems though. seems it cab cut into the surrounding tissue.
