Hi Gaviscon99,I know that my GI doc wasn't anxious to do an endoscopy during the first year or so following my surgery. It is done very often, though. Like you, I was concerned about having one post-Nissen.
At the two year mark, I did have one. It was to confirm that all was well with the wrap, as I have allergies/asthma and my allergist wanted to be sure I wasn't having reflux issues, and that my asthma was related to allergy. The testing I had done proved that my wrap was working just fine, thank you.
I had this post-Nissen endoscopy done by an experienced Nissen surgeon, which made me more comfortable. I ended up getting put out (earlier two endoscopies were done while I was slightly sedated and not sedated at all)and with my increased anxiety with the post-Nissen issue, the sedation was probably a good idea!
Endoscopy is done post-Nissen all the time. In my opinion, it's not something to do routinely. But if there is a good reason to do it, and you need to get some valuable information, it's definitely important to go forward with it.
It seems to me that as long as whoever is doing the endoscopy is aware of your condition, you should be able to get a safe procedure.
Let us know how it goes!
Good luck,
Denise
