8 weeks post-op:
Wow! This past week has been the most improvement so far. I'm finally 'regular' without help from senna. I do take 15 grams of fiber a day via a gummy supplement. It's working! What a relief. :)
I had lost 11 or 12 pounds initially, but have regained 5. I wish I could have kept it off, but my menu planning isn't easy with so many smaller meals. I plan to take charge of that and get that weight back off, and another 10 to go with it.
Like I mentioned in previous posts, the symptoms that caused the need for the surgery are still there.... not much I can do about
that but wait and have hope.
I made some chili with beans for this past weekend. Within 10 minutes of starting in on my bowl, my tummy started to blow up. I took some gas-x and it helped. I had chili again 2 days later and the same thing happened. I'm not too worried, as long as I have the gas-x.
Last night, I enjoyed 2 bottles of Michelob Ultra.
By the end of the 2nd bottle, I was bloated, but also had a bigger than normal dinner in between. Gas-x did the trick, and I switched to water. Next time I try beer, it will be without eating in between. I'm excited! I dreaded not being able to enjoy my favorite beverage, again.
I'm nervous about
salads, but I'm going for it today. The beer was a success, the salad should be, too.
I have not felt the need for PPI's since surgery.
Healing has gone well, with very few set backs that I can think of. The most annoying side effect is the passing of gas so often.
Why is this happening? I feel like I burp normal, why is there so much more gas requiring the southern escape path?
I made the decision to start acupuncture for my assortment of issues. I had my consult and it was unbelievable. Without knowing my history, the doctor informed me my digestive system was non-existent!
She knew this by feeling my pulse and looking at my tongue. She claims the groove down the center of my tongue is the deepest she has ever seen. Now, I'm not sure to believe that statement, as it could be her way of really encouraging me to use her help. But, she was right on with the diagnosis.
I've been reading through the paperwork she gave me to prepare for my first session on Thursday. My main concern is that supposedly conditions may get worse during acupuncture before they get better. Vomiting is a possible side effect.
The directions also state explicitly to not use any drugs to help stop the side effects. The body needs to remove those toxins in order to heal. ugh. I will be calling her today about
that.
For anyone still early on in their recovery, there is hope! Yeah! For anyone considering the surgery, it's not as bad as they say (on other websites)! It's doable, I promise. :)
