For 2 years I've had recurring heartburn and near-daily diarrhea. I would get horrible pains when my stomach was empty too long near the rib cage just to the left. If I concentrated very hard, I could relax my stomach to the point where I could hear the gurgle and feel one too as things relaxed. Now, I couldn't tell if this was a sliding hiata hernia going back down into place, or air/liquid flowing through the LES. But it was generally a relieving feeling. Other symptoms included cough that included green-black specks. Globus, pressure, gas, and a weird gurgle (again on the left side just under the rib cage), after eating. I wake up every morning and have to blow my nose for 15 minutes as things work themselves out. Some mornings I feel like my adnoids are scratchy and my mouth feels "coated" every morning. Usually, I can see the white-yellow-brown remnants on the back of my tongue, as if parutially digested food has been slowly gurgling up all night sitting in the back of my throat. My breath and urine would stink. Symptoms were usually better if I was standing and worse with sitting or if my pants were too tight.
I did some research, and with my history of marijuana abuse, I saw that there was a potential for marijuana to be depleting my magnesium levels. I do not eat well, and I almost certainly don't eat enough magnesium, and probably not of most other vitamins and minerals either. I supplemented my diet with magnesium, and I saw pretty quick relief. My stomach felt more relaxed, and it even seemed to help with the "morning sickness" and/or "hunger pains" I dealt with.
At the same time, I decided to start taking a multivitamin and a vitamin B complex. I continued this regimen for a few days. Taking the vitamin supplements 2wice daily with meals, and taking 200 mg magnesium glycinate 2-3 times per day. Things were well, and I was very impressed by the results. However, when I ran out of my bottle of Vitamin B, things got worse again. I delayed on the replacement bottle, and as my symptoms came back, I was beginning to think that I had placedbo'ed myself into thinking the magnesium was working.
Skeptical, I purchased more Vitamin B supplement. I took one along with the multi and the magnesium, and the difference was astounding. I would get this feeling of fullness after eating, pressure on the same spot of the stomach - left lower ribcage. With the combination of magnesium and B complex, that sensation is gone. So is the recurrent regurgitation of food and the burning of my esophogus. So is the diarrhea.
For people with bad heartburn or digestion problems, I'd very much recommend researching magnesium and B vitamins (specifically B6 and B12), and how they work together for a number of body functions, in addition to digestion. I've found I'm less anxious and irritable overall and maybe a bit less tired too. People with kidney problems are at risk for magnesium toxicity, so speak to your doctor before taking my advice. I'm just a guy with a crazy stomach that seems to be getting better due to some supplements.
