Hi, I wonder if you have ever been to a chiropractor? I just had a nasty flare up of my hiatal hernia. I was bedridden in pain for almost a week. I have been researching like crazy to figure out what to do since my GI and my internist are absolutely no help. I couldn't even get a diagnosis from them after a CT and an ultrasound. I found on my record they diagnosed me with GERD (but didn't even tell me!) and gave me Nexium which I cannot afford and won't take due to the fact that lower stomach acid is a terrible idea.
So this is getting long. Sorry. I just thought you might like to read more about
the ileocecal valve. In chiropractic the corresponding area is in the midback. I had adjustments during my last flare and felt immediate relief. Then I had an abdominal massage which helped tremendously. GERD is merely a symptom of a physical problem which I have been finding more and more related to the hiatal hernia and the ileocecal valve. You can remedy this yourself at home by massaging the area. You can find it by drawing an imaginary line btwn your belly button and your right hip bone, then find the center of that line and two fingers down is the IV. When you press in, if the valve is stuck
open it should be sore. Mine hurt so badly, I could barely touch it. After adjustments, and massage I cannot feel the pain anymore and my symptoms have subsided!
The costochondritis is still a mystery to me. My mom has it and I do think it has a lot to do with candida which is indeed related to GERD, hiatal hernia and ileocecal valve syndrome. This link has some good info that might help you. http://www.balancedconcepts.net/Hiatal_Hernia_Cause_Chronic_Illness.pdf
You can google your heart out on these keywords: ileocecal valve syndrome, the great mimicker, hiatal hernia and gerd, candida and costochondritis... or any variations thereof. all of this just gets prolonged and exacerbated with antacid use. good luck.
