Hi Wilmariley,Welcome to the Healing Well Wrapped Club! There are many members here who've been through the surgery, and are at varying places in their recoveries. You should get lots of support, advice, and ideas from them.
I had my surgery in February 2009. Here's a link to my early recovery journal:

Yes, the shoulder pain is caused by diaphragm irritation (and fixing a hernia is a big time irritation) as well as residual trapped gas that was used to blow up the surgical field, so the surgeon can see what he/she is doing.
Your surgeon's recommendation for walking is exactly right. A night nurse at the hospital suggested that I get up and walk whenever I needed to use the bathroom. I followed her expert advice and found it really helpful. The more I walked, the less my shoulder hurt.
That shoulder pain is really the worst pain of all, in my humble opinion. The bad thing is that the pain meds don't seem to dull it a bit. So walk, walk, walk! The more the better. The bonus is that it'll help you get your strength back more quickly as well.
Were you given anti-nausea drugs? If not, be sure to ask for scripts ASAP. Retching and vomiting are very hard on the wrap, and you want to avoid both of them. Once wrapped, you should carry anti nausea drugs with you wherever you go. You never know when a stomach bug will creep up on you!
I've had three since my surgery, and each time my first sign of nausea was vomiting! Fortunately, I was prepared, and immediately took a Compazine suppository, which ensured I didn't have a repeat performance. I can't possibly take an oral med once I've vomited, so the suppositories were perfect. I have Zofran for the more mellow nausea issues that might pop up.
Glad you've joined the forum! I'm sure other "wrappers" will be by soon!
Happy healing,
Denise
