Alternative to esophageal manometry

Hi everyone,

I have been asked to undergo the esophageal manometry test, about which I've read some not-so-comforting experiences online. Plus I also had a septoplasty last year so sticking up a probe through the nostrils doesn't sound like a great idea to me.
My question is this: is there an alternative test that does the same thing but can done through the mouth instead of the nose. I was under the impression that electrical-impedance tests such as HRiM do the same thing and are done orally but have read conflicting reports online, some of which said they are also done through the nose.
My doc is out of the country for a week or two and may not reply to mails so thought to ask here about people's experiences here with electrical-impedence motility tests.

My another concern is that I have a terrible gag reflex and had a harrowing experience even with the endoscopy, which I understand is far less uncomfortable compared to manometry. They were able to put the scope through only after several attempts and I kept gagging right through till the end of the procedure. So I can only imagine the manometry would be worse.

I had the test done Tuesday actually and like one of the others said, it was doable. Mines took about 30-35 minutes as well. They numb my nose with lydocain with a qtip first. then she heavily lubricated the hose that was going in the nose with it too. I had to hold my chin to my chest and swallow as she was pushing it through. I will admit, you will have some tense painful moments here and there but nothing major. Just try to relax your body and focus on what they ask you to do and you should be fine if you decide to go through with it. Good Luck!!
