Seeing my surgeon tomorrow

Hi all

It will be 5 weeks tomorrow since my surgery and I'll be seeing my surgeon.

I started to get what felt like heartburn late Saturday evening and I had it all day Sunday. I'm sure it's heartburn and the sour taste in my throat. I can't work it out. I've been taking ppi's for a few days but even they didn't help. So was it heartburn or the wrap swelling ?

If the wrap area swells could it possibly let acid out?

Gosh my surgeons got lots of questions to answer tomorrow !

Hi Maria,

Good luck with your appointment! After hearing your symptoms, and the fact that PPIs aren't helping, it sure sounds as if things are getting held up at the wrap site, fermenting, and irritating your esophagus. It feels just like reflux, so it's not unusual that it would be disturbingly like your reflux nightmares.

It'll be interesting to hear what your surgeon says.

I am onboard with Denise. Sure sounds like food sitting at the wrap. Acts just like reflux.

Hi all

I went to see my surgeon and he seems to think all is fine with the surgery. He said he'll see me in the new year and then if I'm still having symptoms he'll do an endoscopy to see what's going on.

I'm not sure what's going on I still feel like it's heartburn and burning in my throat. I know that the ppi's don't help. I don't particularly get the pain after I've eaten so I can't associate it with food. I seem to get the pain most of the time.

I asked my surgeon if it could be the swelling at the wrap site and he said no not this long after surgery(5 weeks). To be honest it doesn't feel like pain in the wrap area but in the upper chest and throat just like heartburn. It seems to be getting worse everyday rather than easing- maybe it is due to swelling and it's reaching peak swelling(even though the surgeon doesn't think it's swelling)

I guess I'll just have to sit it out and hope that it settles and if not go for tests in the new year to try to find out if there is a problem.

I do know that I'm in more pain since my surgery than I was before - how can that be ? I don't seem to have problems swallowing so not sure if food is sitting at the wrap site or not.

I pray that it'll settle but if not then I hope that something is found on the endoscopy and it can be rectified.

My husband asked my surgeon about doing a 24 hour ph test and he said that it's to soon but surely that would prove if acid is coming up.

Thanks for letting me vent my problems again.

I'm pretty much the same apart from the chest pain although I do get burning in the stomach that seems radiate up. Right now I have a sore throat and sour taste after just waking. I'm gonna phone my surgeons secretary up, if I can get hold of her, and ask for a post op appointment as I never got one. Would like an endoscopy done to make sure everything is as it should be.
