It sounds like the meds aren't working for you. Have you tried different ones? Sometimes people respond to one and not the others.

Yes I had great success with the nissen. I wasn't getting any relief from the meds and opted for the surgery.

Hi all. Thanks for your replies. I've unfortunately have had LPR and post viral vagal neuropathy for over a year. It sucks, especially as a teacher because I need my voice.

I think the diet and PPIs have helped to some extent. I was still noticing daily heartburn but Gaviscon advance seems to have helped.

I always wondered about drinking water before bed and whether or not that affects reflux. I will experiment and hopefully keep people posted.

I am about a month from a Nissen and just want to offer y'all some hope that I feel this surgery is a miracle!

I had the procedure outpatient and was really scared of any potential complications as I was in the hospital 2 hours at the most.

I can report I had instant relief of coughing, choking, and my worst reflux symptoms. Within days I noticed I was able to take deeper breathes, my mouth sores and lips are now healed, my voice and throat are almost there too. I am a singer so this is beyond delightful for me. I feel I have some control of my diaphragm back. I feel I can report as a happy success and would recommend the Nissen to anyone suffering LPR without relief with PPIs or diet.

I've had a few problems with food stuck in my throat and painful spasms, but all up, I'm really grateful. I wish I'd done is sooner! When I am religious with my diet, chewing and eating slowly, I almost forget I even had this surgery.

There is hope. Don't give up.

UPDATE: I think the low-acid has helped, but I especially think that taking Gaviscon Advance has helped the most. I also avoid drinking before bed, something I had never done. The results are mostly good. I have had less sore throats in the morning (though I did have a slight on this morning), and while I still have occasional swallowing discomfort, the maddening constant sensation of difficulty swallowing is essentially gone.

LPR and PVVN (both of which I have) have cost me lots of money and comfort, but I keep fighting.
