Welcome to our forum. Yes, PPI 's are being used by so many patients. Long term use has its own problems. Rebound, caused when stopping cold turkey is the most frequent symptom and one can become miserable with it. Our experience to successfully stop was to titrate down VERY slowly over a long period. Our time frame for getting off was approximately six (6) months. We purchased empty capsules and split the dose down--- finally splitting one capsule into eight (8) capsules, then taking 1/8th down to 2 a day then eventually 1 a day. Very tedious and you need patience with the splitting down and have someone help you with it. We are not doctors-- this is just a method that has helped and is doable.
Two-three years ago, our doctor was not familiar with 'rebound' . I told him that it was in the medical journals (not good to tell the doctors). The next time we saw him he was familiar with rebound. The 'word' is out now. Wish you to feel better.
Yes, we had heart racing, anemia, low calcium, low Vit. D, and other lab. from PPI use. We think you should keep in touch with the doc, have labs done to check for deficiencies then take the appropriate supplements. Kind regards. Pat
