New here with endoscopy tomorrow morning

Hi, this is only my second post, so I'm basically new here. I am a 26 year old male who has had heartburn for about 3 years now treated with mainly TUMS. My heartburn isn't real bad and I don't wake up in the middle of the night drowning in acid or anything, but it is enough to be uncomfortable and whip out a couple of TUMS. So, tomorrow I am having an endoscopy and I am not sure if it is my nerves getting the best of me or what, but for the past few days I have felt like there is something stuck in my throat. I am very nervous to see what they find.

Also just to add, my heartburn really began after a course of medicine I took to get rid of H.Pylori that had caused an ulcer. I hate my digestive system with a passion lol.

Hi Shane

The endoscopy is nothing to worry about, I have had one just with the throat spray and no sedatives, I just kept my eyes tightly closed throughout the whole procedure and thought about other things to keep my mind off it. Mine took longer than most as I had a polyp which needed removing but I didn't know until after. Gave the consultant a little challenge . It was only afterwards I felt a bit of nausea and wind but it quickly passed. Usually it takes no more than 5 mins. I have another scheduled in 2 weeks...

Usually h pylori can cause heartburn and reflux , are you sure yours has been totally eradicated. Anyway good luck for tomorrow .

Endoscopy is considered quite a normal procedure, you'll be fine. I've never gone through this but i've heard from many people that it is easy and not very uncomfortable. You might wanna opt for seduction if you are nervous.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. 40 minutes out from check in and I'm pretty darn nervous haha. I don't usually get butterflies like this!

Just got back from the endoscopy and miraculously my entire esophagus was totally normal. How there wasn't even signs of reflux I have no idea. I do have three small pre-pyloric ulcers though that require some hard core Prilosec treatment to help them heal. The doc said she can see the blood vessels under the so I guess that's not good! Here I thought my ulcers or ulcers were gone for good since the pain had stopped. Apparently I was wrong.

How was the procedure? I have one scheduled for March 3 and I am terrified! I have sleep apnea also and I am scared that the medicines may sedate me too much.

Hi Shane , medical reports state that prepyloric ulcers are caused by h pylori, I would ask whether yours has been totally eradicated ? But at least you know the cause of your reflux . Get well soon

I just wanted to point out your symptoms of reflux is caused by the h pylori and ulcer and not usually your meds .. A lot of people who have h pylori complain of reflux, heartburn, bloating and burning pain.

Hi jamosca, the doctor took biopsies of the ulcers and will let me know what they find. I imagine it will be h.pylori. The bugger is harder to get rid of than it seems. She also wants to scope me again in 3 months after I spend that time on prilosec full time. I think his is the standard for ulcers in that area of the stomach and she wants to make sure that they heal up.

Hopingforbetterdayz, the procedure was a piece of cake. Once they got me set up the last thing I remember is them saying we are going to give you some medicine now and then I woke up. I feel like I remember the scope in my throat almost like a dream or flashbacks but I really can't say if it was real lol. It's a really easy and smooth procedure.
