sinusitis from hell

While I don't a lot of people in my area are dealing with it. I did have it for about 3 months back in the Fall though. thought it would never go away.

I finally got a nasal spray, used a netty pot, and got the humidifier going. That helped me a lot.

Bill has some good ideas. Do you have a humidifier? I don't understand why the ENT had you get Nasonex.

I get headaches from dry or plugged up sinuses since nose got broken. My best relief is twice a day saline wash with NeilMed squeeze bottle. I warm the water in the microwave 30 seconds. Never use tap water unless it's boiled! Brain-eating ameba has been found in public water as far north as Wisconsin.

Another remedy I like is 12 hour Mucinex. It helps keep mucus thin so the cilia in lungs and sinuses can expel it. There's a generic 12 hour now too.

I had the sinus surgery, but I don't recommend it. It made my sinusitis worse.

Your ENT can take a sample for culture to see if there is an infection. Not much works on sinus infections since there is little blood supply. Mostly what works is sulfa drugs, which I don't tolerate.

The ear problem could be from the sinusitis or the throat.

A thought for you - Fungal sinusitis is an uncommon infection that was traditionally associated with immunocompromise but which is increasingly seen among the immunocompetent patient population. It is also associated with diabetes. Recently, there have been suggestions that it is actually very prevalent, occurring in most cases of chronic sinusitis - this assertion remains highly debated. The most common culprits are the Aspergillus and Mucor species.

You mentioned possible neurological issues - have you seen a neurologist for a medical screening exam?

Kitt, yes, i had a neurological exam and MRI of my brain and all was "essentially normal", whatever that means. My sinus issues seem to be a new and extreme non-allergic type response to triggers. Especially temperature change. And now my nose runs when i eat which has never happened in my life. My nervous system seems to be wrecked. I am on ativan also, so who knows how much of a roll this is playing in my symptoms. However, the voice loss and lump in the throat happened before the ativan. In the past few weeks the pain in my throat has spread to my chest. When i attempt to talk, within 10 minutes i feel tightness in my chest and even shortness of breath. Just getting worse and worse. I read about the fungal issues with the sinuses, but didnt come to any conclusions. p.s. i sneeze now when i am at the computer screen. This is neurological in my opinion. I have always sneezed in direct sunlight but never from artificial light.

Bill, no, i never had any sinus problems in my life and it all started on dec 4th out of the blue. My ENT thinks it is a neuropathy. There is no question that there has been a neurological change in the way my nasal passage works. I have alot of burning pain in the nose and then it will get congested. Cool air opens it up and warm air plugs it up. Both ears are plugged also. There is alot of inflammation in there. THe headaches and ear problems are making my life unbearable. The nasonex helps a little but i think its making me nauseaus. I dont see any answers for this
