Hi all,
Just wondering how long each of you have had LPR, and if so do you still have the red vocal chords, pain and oedema?
How long also did it take to clear - if you've managed to get rid of it.
Many thanks

4 years. I never knew what was wrong and and I had trouble explaining it to doctors. So in the four years, I had two EKG's, multiple blood test, a CT scan, and been to the ER many times for trouble breathing with a lump in my thoat and a drowning feeling. My family and I labeled myself as a hypochondriac with anxiety. Just last week I went to the ER again and the doctor said it was silent GERD and put me on Famotidine. Now that I'm on Famo it has been a night and day difference and I am so grateful. I'm still in the healing process after 4 years of damage and I am booked to see a Gastrointestinal Doctor. It's too early to tell about
the healing so my vocal chords are still shot and my throat is red and inflamed but I will keep you updated on the healing. That's my story, what's yours?

I exhibit all the symptoms of LPR, but have been told by the surgeon I saw that my symptoms are not acid related but that I have a "hypersensitive esophagus". He has asked my doctor to refer me to an ENT specialist and I'm all for that. I'll see what they have to say, but I still have an
open mind about
the diagnosis and have not ruled out getting the ResTech test done in the future.
Anyway I've had this since May of last year ... so nearly a year now.

I've had it just about
6 months, still not managing it well. feels like I'm breathing acid fumes. going to try the gaviscon advance.
Noelle, there was an article someone posted on here recently that explained that LPR was not so much associated with acid and it was pepsin,a digestive enzyme the stomach secretes. In studies they found it in subjects larynx/pharynx, sinuses and middle ears(we all know those symptoms...)

Thanks diaba, that's interesting. While I'm waiting for my ENT appointment to come through I think I should do a pepsin test too then ... simple test and won't hurt to find out one way or the other if that could be the culprit.

I started in April 2012 with a burning throat, tongue and lips, I was told it was burning mouth syndrome. Then my arches at the back of my mouth changed to a bright red as did the back of my throat, up until Sept 2013 vocal chords were clear, but had sore throat, lost my voice in July and developed upper dysphagia and cysts on tonsils, pepsin test on Sept 2013 through the roof! Come November 2013, vocal chords red, oedema, and sore throat still, and get globus on top of dysphagia.
I cannot have surgery, from motility problems - I am now on massive doses of ppis and they are not making much difference. I have a HH and weak lower sphincter, and now lower dysphagia - marvellous.
My manometry's have shown constant spasm in cricopharyngeal muscle usually around 196 mmHg.
Next stop Botox in the throat - oh lovely.
