Hi folks, going for my fundoplication in two days! Any advice that will give me the best recovery?

Best wishes! My redo is on Thursday! We can recover together! This will be my second time. The best advice that I can remember is to take pain medication, eat or drink small amounts and very slow and walk and walk and rest. I am from Missouri, how about you. Let me know how it is going. Oh also, don't forget to breath!

Hi guys thanks for the responses. Had my surgery today and it lasted just under 90minutes. Some pain at wounds but very little, worst bit is the shoulder and upper back pain from the gas, but it is supposed to settle when I get walking. Not just feeling upto it at the minute. Also thanks for the welcome to the club dencha lol

Now it's official! Welcome to the yeah yeah yeahWrapped Club! yeah yeah yeahGlad to hear you're done with your surgery and on the other side...ready to start your healing process. The shoulder pain is terrible, I know. I didn't find the pain meds touched it. I did find that the more I walked, the less it hurt, so as soon as you feel up to it, get walking.

I stayed in the hospital overnight, and a night nurse was the one who told me to walk whenever I got up to go to the bathroom. I was up and walking a lot even in the middle of the night...dragging my IV pole along, as I walked laps around the nurse's station!

Hi Denise

Yep I found the information on these forum posts. Possibly one of yours! Did you find the pain also in your upper back? It's even sore to breathe deeply, but, not one symptom of reflux all day and the first time I can remember I've lay in bed without acid, let's hope it keeps up lol

Hi Chris,

I do remember some back/chest pain. I was suspicious that it was caused by the dead-weight lifting of me from the OR table back to the gurney, that would certainly pull on those muscles. I've had a similar sensation after other surgeries/procedures that were done, which led me to that conclusion.

I am 12 days past surgery. The pain in my back between my shoulder blades took a couple days to really get going. The worst was in my left shoulder but went towards my right as we'll. I too had trouble taking a deep breath. Keep trying though because you don't want complications from shallow breathing. Just breath in slow. It gets easier. I still have some trouble but it's different now. It's more because I feel like the whole circumference of my rib cage is too tight. Doesn't hurt except a morsel now there. Keep on top of the pain. The first few days are the worst. All the best in your healing.
