manometry study tests are in and the outlook isnt good

!!!!!!!!I need to talk to someone who knows what the numbers and stuff mean on
Manometry results!!!!!!!!!

All in a nut shell the doc said:
Upper and middle of my esophagus the numbers were in the 30's and 40's
my lower esophagus where it connects to the stomach the number was a 2.

Can this be right?

He said that hes done/seen thousands of these tests and never seen numbers as low as mine were. He suspects that the equipment was not functioning correctly so he is sending me for a barium swallow this Thursday.

He said if it was a malfunction in the equipment and the barium swallow says my esophagus motility is working like it should for the most part, he will more than likely to a full wrap but loosely. And he has me down for surgery April 3rd. just in case the barium swallow tells him what he needs to know. I have my next follow up with him on Monday to confirm or deny surgery.

If the results are in fact correct he said he didn't know how I was eating with out choking to death and surgery would make everything worse or possibly kill me.

We have a family history of lupus and scleroderma. We believe I have scleroderma but it hasn't been confirmed with tests yet. IF the manometry results are right and there are no muscles at the bottom of my esophagus we believe that's a good sign I possibly have scleroderma. I know that if I have scleroderma I need further tests to find out why my esophagus has stopped working.

My concern in this post are the manometry study results... and could mine be right? Any cases of this happening to anyone else? What happens now?

My head is not in a very good place right now BC of the good and the bad of either way.

I hope somebody answers your question. I am supposed to have a manometry soon. I wish i could help you. Dont panic. It could be equipment malfunction. That happened to me with the Restech.

Hi Jill,sorry to hear your having problems with your esophagus.You say your surgeon will go ahead a do a full loose wrap.I would get another opinion just to be sure,if your esophagus is not working properly a partial wrap would maybe be the better option.
Ive been through this myself,i had a full loose wrap with an undiagnosed motility problem and was really ill for a year and a half until I had it redone to a partial wrap with another surgeon.Please be careful! Barry

I have had several manometries, but I have no idea hat the numbers should be.

I do know I had a 0 for the LES pressure and am wondering if the bottom number is actually your LES pressure.

Baza- Her surgeon is waiting for the results of a barium swallow before deciding if the manometry was correct and what to do about surgery.

yes those numbers were LES. I have the paperwork that shows all the numbers... but i dont know what im looking at exactly... except where he showed me the numbers and where on the esophagus it is.

The LES number being that low means it is basically just open. I am not sure about the other pressures, but I will do some searching.

If the numbers are correct AND if I have scleroderma the low number would pretty much confirm I had scleroderma. I don't know much about scleroderma yet by it affects the connective tissues along with countless other things.

I'm going to keep assuming it was a technical error like the doctor thinks. I hate living in fear of not knowing what I'm going to choke on. Since the problem area is at the bottom of my esophagus it would be nearly impossible for someone to do the hymlic manover on me.

So lets hope the barium swallow gives us better answers.

Hi,

You can have tertiary contractions at the bottom of your oesophagus without having scleroderma - as I have this.

I have very poor motility now - but it's not scleroderma - and it's made worse by reflux.

There are various options - you can actually have your stomach removed in some severe cases - have you had actual problems with food getting stuck at the LES?
