So for most people this would be a good thing for their gerd. At the beginning of the year I was 195 6'3". So i wasn't over weight and happy at my weight. Gerd was under control with 40mg nexium. Now I am at 172 after being switched to omeprozole and now 60 mg dexilant by new gi which doesn't seem to work either. They don't help, and I have severely restricted my diet to try and heal gastritis I got from the rebound of not using nexium. Still most things cause gerd for me except apples seems like. Is this bad I've lost this much weight, I've told my gi and SE doesn't seem to think so. I am only 24 and I feel I am 16 again because I'm so skinny.

Ideal weights for male at 6'3" = 167 - 182 with medium frame; large frame 176 - 202 lbs.

At 172 it appears you are still with in you range but probably want to talk with your Dr. re your weight loss as there may be other reasons for your losing weight.

I have a hubby that is 6'0" who has Crohn's Disease and his weight has dropped to 136lbs. so we are off to have some testing done.

Ok yeah I figured I was in my range, I just feel like I'm losing muscle weight. I work out pretty regularly and my strength has been down along with my energy. Do you think if I went back on nexium it would help with this. It's the ppi I have found that worked. Then again I hate any PPIs. I have had an egd recently and ultrasound and will know more at my follow up on the 21st. Diagnosed with hiatal hernia and gastritis 3 years ago and then again 2 weeks ago.

Due to your age, you may want to wait until the 21st and talk with your Dr. re returning to the use of PPI or is this perhaps something that would need surgical intervention. 

It is always tough when the medication works but you fear the long term side effects that may go along with the medication.

This is such a controversial topic as we have those that take their PPIS and they work so they go on their merry way.

Then we have the group that is concerned about osteoporosis that want off the drug and they frequently end up trying to find another way of managing their GERD.

I wish you well and hope your upcoming appointment will help you make your decision.

Yeah I am thinking about nissen fundo, but it am also just starting out my career and don't want to miss many days. So I was hoping to get back on nexium if it still works for awhile. Then get the fundo once I have established myself a little more. I am a wildlife biologist so I don't sit at a desk too often and am very active in my job lifting heavy things or handling animals, and the surgery could put me off of heavy lifting and lots of activity for 3 months.

Linx surgery cured me of my gerd. I no longer take ppi's. I was back to my 90-minute bikram yoga classes (strenuous) 4 weeks after surgery, and I'm running a 5k race this weekend (6-weeks post).

Insurance coverage of the surgery is the biggest barrier, but I hope this will improve in time. I'm going to write my insurance company a letter thanking me for covering linx, but asking them why they've changed their policy (they no longer cover it) and telling them they should...

May I ask why you went with the linx. Did you have a hiatal hernia.

I went with the linx because fundoplication scared me - the fact that it was irreversible, people can't burp or vomit after (I guess not all, but many?). So I wasn't willing to do surgery until the linx came along, and I wasn't ready for such a step until I got sick and tired of being on ppi's for years and still not feeling well, and then I got bile reflux on top of acid.

Going in to surgery I had what was diagnosed by endoscopy as a 2 cm sliding hiatal hernia, but surgeon said it was much bigger. He did hernia repair (stitches only needed) and then placed the linx.

They have now said that a lower strength MRI is possible, and if I ever needed the higher strength, I could have the linx removed (it would mean another laparoscopy but that's an easy surgery to recover from - I had one during infertility treatment and I was fine 3 days later).

Did you ever think about the tif surgery, I am just wondering on that. The linx is sounding real good to me, my hiatal hernia is also 2cm sliding.

9 weeks after LINX and I can't even carry my books to school - let alone doing yoga or running 6 miles. We all heal differently, it would be a bit misleading to say otherwise.

veritas44, I'm so sorry the linx hasn't worked for you. Are your incisions not healing? This was the second time I'd had a laparoscopy, first was for infertility surgery. The lap incisions themselves should be feeling better after several weeks. It's very strange that you can't carry books - is it the linx itself causing you pain? Yes, each of us heals differently, but my surgeon said most people do heal quickly from lap/linx, so I think you are an unlucky person. What does your surgeon say?
