Hi jeans,
I can't tell you exactly how long your nausea will last. Have you had it from the very beginning of your recovery, or did it start more recently? I know it's hard to know whether to contact your surgeon or doctor, but I'd recommend moving to your GI doctor at this point. A GI doc will have a better sense of how to handle your nausea issues. Surgeons do surgery. GI docs treat GI issues. If you haven't called him/her, please do. See if you can make an appointment...it'll be easier to communicate in person. Of course if it takes forever to get an appointment, you can deal with his NP or PA, and explain what's going on while you wait to see the doctor.
I don't think anyone here will have the answers you need. We don't have the expertise a GI doc will have. There are many other medications that could possibly make you more comfortable. If you're suffering as much as you're describing, then you absolutely need to be under the care of your GI doc. You shouldn't have to be that uncomfortable.
In the meantime, be very, very careful with your eating, and baby your stomach. Take small bites, and chew, chew, chew. Do not swallow anything that is not a creamy/liquid consistency. Remember that the stomach contracts as the muscles help with digestion. Anything in the stomach that isn't smooth will irritate the stomach lining even more.
Keep in mind that 6 weeks is still very early in the recovery process. This recovery takes six months for most of the healing and a year for the rest. I even found improvements into the second year.
Hang in there...you can do this!
Best wishes!
Denise
