Problems with nausea after fundoplication.

Hey friends. It's been a while since I have posted. Since my surgery in August of 2012, I have been good, can eat again without the sensation of food backing up and I recently went off the Prevacid per doctors request. I have had a few bad boughts of heartburn but nothing Roland's or Zantac hasn't fixed. My problem is this, I have complications with my throat constricting when I swallow, somedays worse than others and I take klonopin for anxiety so the doctors has been treating the constrictions with those as well. My biggest problem is I still deal with bad nausea. Does anyone else have trouble with this so far after the surgery? I am also scheduled to go for my third dilation since the surgery due to scar tissue in the back of my throat and to help me swallow better from the problems with the constrictions. Any advice or insights will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I still remember you from early on when I began posting right after my surgery. I always welcomed your kind words of wisdom. :)

The strictures are pretty rough. Mostly with cold liquids although I get them other times too. I feel like my chest is closing in and like what I just swallowed can't go down. Not a great feeling. Very unsettling. The doctor did have some concerns that this would happen as before surgery during the mammotry test, it didn't come out as expected and they believed that was one of the reasons I was having troubles.

My biggest complaint is the nausea. It just comes and when it comes, its there hard and fast. I have yet to actually vomit as the meds usually control it. But to be perfectly honest, I am also afraid to vomit as I don't want to cause damage to whats been done in there. (LOL) I have at least one bad case a week but sometimes more. I do have Zofran, the melt away kind and I am taking 8 mg each time I use it. I have one doc who really doesn't want me taking it and another that says if I need it, then take it. So I am a bit conflicted on which doctor to listen to.

Its been a rough road and I feel like I have been handed other problems after ridding one big problem. I know I am only just over about 18 months out of surgery and this healing process can take that if not more, I guess I am just frustrated.

Im new to the fourm. 6 weeks post op and very nauseated. Some days are better than others. Can you please tell me when this will get better. My surgeon told me nothing of this in my. Pre op but from what I hear this is common. Please help me.

Hi shsron. How do you feel now. I deal with neausa everyday. Are you fully recovered

Sharon what does your Surgeon say about the Nausea? I think at first I was eating all the wrongs foods but am now on soft foods. Will this get better or will the Neuasa just stick around for ever. Has other people experienced this as well. Mine is fine some days an then bad others

Im miserable. From what I hear its part of the healing process and not everyone gets it. Please let me know what your dr says. Are you on a liquid diet?

I would still check with your dr. Keep me posted on what they ssy. May help me yoo. Did they say how long recovery is? Did they give you a list of foods to eat

My surgeon called me this morning. Said nausea my be from the pain med (nausea is listed as a side effect). Only reason I'm taking is to help me sleep so he said to stop that & try advil pm for pain & to help sleep. Also while I was researching soft foods diet I saw reference to Dumping Syndrome which is rapid emptying of stomach due to eating sweet things. Sweet foods move more rapidly thru intestines & can cause nausea & dizziness. I have eaten pudding or drank sweetened drinks a few times b/f onset of nausea so perhaps that's it. Info said u can eat sweets but do so at end of meal. I will try all these suggestions.
