Bloody spit please help

Hi,
I am new here 46 y.o . female.
My symptoms are nausea and dizziness any time of the day. I changed my dinner time to 5 pm so I would be able to have 3 hours leeway before bedtime. I was given Omeprazole 20mg daily for 90 days. I finished the 30 days with no changes and on top of that when I spit in the morning there's a small amount of blood. I don't cough and when I try to hack there's nothing would come out anymore. I get hungry before going to bed that's why I try to eat even a small snack I noticed when I ate nachos with salsa, I felt a pain in my tummy after doing so.
I can't sleep properly anymore and scared to eat thinking it would cause me pain. I tried taking Gaviscon chewable before bedtime and that would give me a good feeling the next morning. I don't have heartburn but I constantly burp even I didn't eat anything at all.
I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

Are you sure it's blood? Are you eating anything red that maybe you're just spitting up?

Unfortunately it's small amount of blood. There were times that my throat would be very dry and would taste metallic. I don't have shortness of breath or spasms. It usually occurs when I eat trigger foods that I'm not aware of. I would feel nauseatic most of the time.

Burping is a common sign of a weak LES, so you may have GERD but feel no pain yet since the esophagus can tolerate a lot of acid exposure. If it gets bad enough to burn through the lining of the esophagus then you would start to feel heartburn pain.

The blood could be from your sinuses. When you sleep your throat can relax and the acid will then leak into the back of your throat. The lower part of your sinuses may then get exposed to the acid enough to cause a little bleeding. If you have an irritated throat in the morning this is possibly what is happening. The best way to prevent this is to put blocks under the head of your bed so that when your throat relaxes, gravity will keep the acid from coming up as much.

Taking a PPI to weaken your stomach acid might also help. Omeprazole 20mg might not be strong enough. You could try a timed release Lansoprazole which you can buy in 15mg capsules and take one before dinner and one at bedtime so that the acid is weakest during the night.

I love nachos too, but they trigger a lot of acid production, so not a good idea to eat them for dinner or near bedtime. If you need a bedtime snack I find that yogurt is pretty safe for nighttime refluxers.

Hi there you don't say of its fresh (red) blood or not? My guess is that it will be from your gums-we all suck our teeth and gums during sleep and if there is a tiny lesion or bit of inflammation then we will see blood when we get up (increasing our BP) and spit-same thing happened to me last week funnily enough-soon tracked it down to tiny region of front tooth.
I know how it is when you suffer fronm this bloody awful thing-you imagine all sorts of things and become a paranoid hypochondriac-believe me I know! blush if it weree associated with your GERD it would be more dramatic than that-eg as part of vomiting etc
Anyway try not to worry and check out your mouth

Thank you very much Speden and Croftboy,
You spent time for answering my questions. You even made things a lot lighter to bear. You listened to me more than my GP to be honest. I believe that the sinuses could be the leading cause for this bleeding. Like I said I don't hack it from the throat and its colour is red wine , not that very bright coloured blood. Yes, you do have a point that it's from sinuses or from the roof of my mouth I could be also biting my cheeks unconsciously when I'm in deep sleep.
I just got tired of coming back every now and then to GP with different symptoms . After I saw her, with this GERD issues , my right ear got clogged so even when I try to blow my nose there's no mucus or anything like that. I think I just need to think positive about things. I will try not to stress myself over things that are not worth it. Once again, my heartfelt thanks.
