12 days off PPIs...

Just wanted to say the nausea could be because of reflux acid because of loose oesophageal valve. The nausea could also be just from the rebound acid and you don't have loose oesophageal valve or it could be from both contributing their fair share to reflux acid. It may be possible you have gastritis, now about you change from Zantac to something like fomitadine or cimitadine if Zantac is not doing much -discuss this with your doctor.If you are happy to take ppi, now about you try another ppi, like pantoprazole, pantoprazole, dexilant, rabeprazole. They may be more effective. But its still possible to have axis rebound at week 2. Hopefully things will settle for you soon.

what dose Zantac so you take?

I truly sympathise with you, really do. I hope you will find some relief soon, i know its hard but please be strong, loosing it now will just compound your problems.

I don't want to recommend dosages and i always recommend talking to your doctor if you ever want to change medication or increase dosage. But 75mg Zantac is very small dosage, ideally you want between 150-300mg. With most dosages i have seen is 150mg x 2 a day and with maximum of 300mf x 2 a day. I was on 300mf x 2 a day and it did nothing for me apart from kill my gallbladder and sever cramping after 2 months. PPI or H2 blockers cause lazy gallbladder which is more dangerous and life ruining than the gastritis i was being treated for. Lazy gallbladder and low far diet I was on only contributed to the lazynessn of the gallbladder, and this causes a slugs to form and even stopping the ppi would not really make gallbladder recover, the sludge is very difficult or next to impossible to fix. More wonderful stuff the doctors dont warn us about, if i knew i would of not even considered the medication. I know don't agree with the no fat or very low far diet for gastritis, certainly not long term.

a family friend also found Zantac useless and tried fomitadine which was better, unfortunately until you try you will never know, i would talk to your doctor for help before doing anything out of desperation.

I am currently in a world of hurt, i am now not taking anything, not even gaviacon and even dropped sucralfate out of desperation to help my gallbladder pain die down. I am now forced into upping my fat quite substantially. and adding vegetables substantially and unfortunately all these are hurting my gastritis badly and my gallbladder is getting a little better when i eat fatty foods.

I would like to try a gallbladder flush but its not possible with this stomach and gastritis on full stomach acid. I am refluxing but its tolerable right now. I just hoping my gallbladder pain goes because doctors will just try remove it. I am unfortunately stich in between a rock and a hard place.

I just angry when thinking about how over one year the doctors have ruined my life with medications and not telling me about their horrid possible side effects, they did not pet me decide on whether the risk outweigh the benefit. Stupid doctors, absolutely stupid.

They can't warn you about anything, or five good advice they treat us like slaves and themselves like gods. LOL

Just put of interest what are you eating? have you tried varying your diet to control your acid reflux.

James_a, I would have done a gall bladder cleanse had I known in 2009 what I know now. Doctors told me my gall bladder was causing my acid reflux problems. I’ve been worse off ever since I had it removed. I thought they knew what they were talking about. They sure didn’t. I’m sorry you’re in such misery. I know how unbearable it is.

After 5 days off PPI’s, a 30 day or so weaning, (Zantac 150mg 2x daily did nothing) I got so deathly ill I could NO LONGER FUNCTION. I went back on them yesterday … I have an appt Sept. 22nd with a NEW gastroenterologist with a ‘teaching’ hospital that is more on the ‘cutting edge’ of new treatments for GERD and digestive issues. My previous gastro doctor is USELESS and has NO answers.

I feel for you, too mammanoesbest, I am also right on the edge of madness from the PAIN that never goes away. I can’t sleep more than a few hours even on my highly elevated bed, without awaking with severe chest pain. We are all in debilitating misery and there has to be an answer.

I’m real short on faith right now but am praying that this new doctor will actually LISTEN and hear me and have some answers or some method of treatment and relief. I just want my LIFE BACK!

Mommanoesbest3391, I've felt your pain and been there in the ER when they stick you in a room and forget about you for two hours. Get some dried ginger candy. Eat just a little piece, no bigger than 1" square. It will stop the nausea within minutes if not seconds. Have you ever tried DGL licorice root and slippery elm? I've been off PPI's for two weeks now, eating three meals, and gaining back some weight thanks to this and aloe vera juice/honey cocktails.

Amen to that! As good as I feel now, life still isn't completely back to normal yet. I was reminded of that today after I stopped at McD's and ate a burger and shake and forgot to bring my DGL and slippery elm with me. Thankfully, it doesn't take nearly as long to get back to my "pre-careless" condition as it did before, and I'm fine now.
