Hello everyone!

I'm a 28yr old female, I'm 5'2 and 155lbs. I'm having the Nssen Fundoplication done next week on the 14th after having GERD for the last 8yrs (Since becoming pregnant with my oldest child). I now have GERD/ Barret's esophagus, an ulcer, and a hernia. I'm extrememly happy to be getting this fixed! I am wondering though, when you had this procedure done about how much weight did you lose? I know this isn't a weight loss surgery, but I'm more curious then anything! Thank you!

I had the Nissan fundiplocation surgery this past Monday. I have lost 8#s in 4 days. Which probably is normal going from eating to only clear liquids. Even though I am starting with full liquids The restrictions on diet are so tough that I can't imagine putting much weight on. I was curious as well about weight loss as long as I was going through it hopefully would lose some weight. I think this will definitely be an opportunity to lose weight by improving my diet and exercise. We are about the same build. I am 5'4 and as of today 150#. As for any long term weight loss I can't speak to that.

12kg in the first week
5kg the week after
8 months later 28kg in total

As I still can't eat much I put a huge amount of effort into making sure my meals contain sufficient protein, fibre and vitamins. Lots of meat, fruit, veg and olive oil.

On the plus side, I now have a great six pack that I haven't seen for 20 years and enjoy choosing what snacks (nuts, brownies, ice cream etc) I'm going to eat between meals.

On the down side, I'm sick of people telling me I'm anorexic. If they knew the quantity of ice cream I eat they wouldn't say this.

I was an active elderly male--I played daily tennis and/or during inclement weather walked 3 - 5 miles a day at the mall. I am 6' tall and weighed 213 prior to surgery. In the weeks after surgery I was down to 196 lbs--so I lost about 17 lbs. In the year and five months since surgery I am back up to about 206. Although I can now eat or drink anything, I have modified my diet to a light breakfast (if I eat at all in the morning), then one full meal a day in the late afternoon and just snacks later on in the evening. We live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast where we have lots of casino buffets so there is great temptation to overdo the food. Whatever I eat, it is only a single serving of whatever is being served. I could eat more but with aging, my metabolizsm has slowed considerably and I no longer eat as much in order to compensate.

I have lost 40 pounds total in 5 months post op. I exercise and just don't eat at much. At times it has bothered me only because I haven't been this small since I was 18 years old, so it undoubtly feels strange. I was 180, 5'2 and needed to lose but wow...

Just as a point of contrast: I lost no weight during recovery. I am now at about 2 months out from surgery and have neither gained nor lost weight. Everyone is different!

Tomorrow will be 12 weeks since my surgery. I have lost 44 lbs. I want to/need to lose more!
