My GI put me on 40mg x2 daily of Pantroprazole after Omeprazole 20mg x 2 daily wasn't working . I have had reflux daily for about 6weeks now with all the usual symptoms. Had scope and colonoscopy, everything showed as normal. The Pantroprazole seems to be more effective but I still experience the pressure or feeling of something in my throat after being on this medication for 2 weeks. Is this the best I can expect from the medication? Also, if everything is normal from my tests does this mean I have a wonky LES, my GI said they don't test for that when doing scope. I am eating mainly oatmeal, chicken, fish, vegetables and a little bit of fruit.

Hi

I find it strange you doctor started with colonoscopy rather than endoscopy. You want to have endoscopy done to check for gastritis, helico bacteria, hernia and others, PH manomentery test done to see if indeed you are refluxing and measure if you have week oesophageal valve and few other things.

if pantoprazole is not giving you relief then you can true another type, maybe like nexium, dwxilant, rabeprazole and pantoprazole, try to find a way if possible to manage your symptom without over reliance on medication if possible. also PPI take about 5-14 days to work and some even longer.

You could have gastritis or helico bacteria that is causing this reflux.

Welcome to our forum. Have you done these things--
1. Stop eating three hours before bedtime
2. Raise the head of the bed ( not the pillows). Put blocks under the legs of the head end. Keeps the reflux in the stomach.
3. Stop coffee, carbonated soda, beer, alcohol, chocolate foods.
4. Eat smaller meals and the food should be chewed very well. No big bites. No gulp then go stuff.
5. Be sure you are taking your medicine appropriately , thirty minutes before the first bite of food. Time it correctly.
6. What did the doctor tell you about eating-- what you can eat or cannot eat? This is important.

Hi James_a, I did have an endoscopy done as mentioned in my first post, everything was normal. Thanks Pat for your recommendations, I am doing all of these things. The GI said I could eat most things apart from the usual trigger foods. I eat only chicken, fish, salmon, Vegies and oatmeal and a little fruit I can tolerate. I will give the medicine a bit more time to see how it goes. If it wasn't for this lump in the throat sensation I would be pretty happy with the medication. I don't want to be on it for too long. From reading other posts the lump in the throat seems to be a symptom of a lot of people posting.
