Hi Zoelove and all the other esophagitis sufferers here!Sorry you are suffering so! I've been away, so missed your initial post. I have lots of experience with a burned esophagus. Prior to my Nissen surgery, reflux from a flared/gastritis stomach would burn it to the point where it took at least 3 months to heal, and during each episode, I would lose at least 20 pounds.
Your experience reminded me of another member here several years ago, who burned her esophagus on undiluted lemon juice.
Check out her thread here...I wrote lots of responses, and rather than repeat the on this thread, you can follow her experience/recovery here:
www.healingwell.com/community/default.aspx?f=45&m=2063518She does have a additional problem that you don't--her voice was also affected, but still, there is a lot there that is similar. Toward the bottom of the 6th page, she writes about
her recovery, FYI. Hopefully you'll find the thread helpful.
I will recommend you consider asking your doctor for Carafate suspension perscript
ion. I found it extremely helpful in relieving pain and helping healing. My PCP doc said he was happy I found it so helpful, as it is a very benign medication, with most being excreted by the lower GI tract.
Also, from quickly reading your post, it sounds as if you're not on maximum PCP dosage. 40mg Protonix an hour before breakfast, and another 40mg Protonix an hour before dinner would make more sense to me, if you have reflux. You don't want any acid at all getting to your esophagus.
Okay...I'm sure I'm repeating much of what I wrote in the thread I've linked above. Check it out, and ask any questions you might have after reading it.
I hope things get feeling better soon!
Best wishes,
Denise
