Gastric distension in upper stomach are strongest stimulus for generation of TLESRs and is aggravated by intake of food in between meals. In the light of pathophysiological mechanisms it is suggested that increasing interval between meals and only soft drinks in between will reduce reflux episodes. The hypothesis was tested in 4 patients with endoscopically proven reflux oesophagitis and/or typical reflux symptoms. Three patients followed our advice to eat twice a day, with soft drinks in between. One patient had a light breakfast but increased the interval between lunch and dinner to 8 hours. All cases were relieved from repeated reflux episodes, in 1-2 weeks, without any medication.

Soft drinks??? Like Coke or lemonade? They've got to be on something, and I'm not talking about PPI's or the patients.

Baby boy is beautiful...15 months now, size of a two year old and strong as a baby ox. Its been a blast so far. There was truth to the idea that once I had a child, I just wouldn't have as much time to worry about the reflux... :)

I'll bet he's a cutie! Have fun being a dad...it's lots better than worrying about reflux, isn't it? Enjoy every moment...they grow up so, so fast!

Yes, now in addition to reflux I just worry about my kid breaking his neck falling down, which he does too frequently for my liking.

What an odd study! I know the longer I go without food the worse I am! Give the acid something to do I say! Maybe it's different if there's any gastritis?

Glad to hear parenthood is suiting you. I've got two boys and just spent the last two weeks watching them diving into deep swimming pools or disappearing out to sea chasing waves. Enjoy it while he's still little enough to put over your shoulder and cart off!

Hi ARM,

Kids are a lot tougher than you think! Your little guy can fall repeatedly, and he'll do just fine. In fact, he HAS to fall, in order to learn how to negotiate his environment!

MMM is right...they grow up SO, SO fast...have fun with him!
