Hi guys, I've been suffering from bad GERD for about 2 years, recently however I was diagnosed with depression. I've been put on sertraline, which is an antidepressant. It's changed my life and I feel a lot better in my self. However, my GERD symptoms have gone down dramatically! I can lay down after eating and even drink coffee now. I was diagnosed with a lax oesophagus.
I've read that sertraline has a chronic pain numbing effect, which is something I'm worried about. I'm not sure if my GERD is actually getting better or if the antidepressant is masking the pain.
I have a hospital appointment soon to discuss surgery, but i'm stuck in this situation.
Has anyone had experience with this before, is it the antidepressants that are masking the pain? Or am I getting better?
I look forward to your reply.
Jason.
