Hi, I'm 4 weeks post op and have had a fairly easy time with a few minor problems along the way. Two weeks ago, I started eating more solid foods, but still on the soft side. My surgeon said that I could eat chicken as long as I chewed it very well. I have found that chicken and potatoes are the worst! They get "hung up" on the wrap and I feel as though I am drowning. I can't get the food to go down and I was having trouble getting the food to come back up. I was dropping my daughter off at college in Montana and was forced to eat out for a week...not an easy thing to do when you're limited on what you can eat. During the week, I found that I was able to semi-vomit. Regurgitating what was sitting in my esophagus might be a better way to put it. It was absolutely awful! I would try to drink some water to help it go down, but the water would just pool on top and make me feel worse. I tried to sit calmly and breathe so as to open up the wrap site, but that didn't work well either. So, I had to force it back up as best I could. Very embarrassing when you're out at dinner and have to keep getting up to go to the restroom.
I did my best to chew, chew, chew my food and only eat soft things. Every once in a while I would forget and take a bigger bite than I should or swallow it too quickly and of course, that's when I would have the problems. Just wondering if others are able to regurgitate their food or have found a better way to get past the drowning/choking feeling. I hope I'm not hurting the wrap in any way.
Thanks!
Katrina
