2 1/2 weeks post Nissen Redo with Hernia Repair

I had my fundo 3 weeks this Wednesday. This was a redo and my stomach had attached itself to my liver which the doctor detached. Needless to say my recovery has been a rough one. I am still on a soft food forced vegetarian diet. I still have horrible stomach cramps at times my liver actually hurts. I am still bloated and the area under my rib cage feels full and tender. I can burp though and have gas all the time, guess that is good. I worry that the scar tissue on my liver from my previous surgery cause some sort of damage to my liver, it's odd that it's still sore . I am still taking Prilosec not sure if I have heartburn or everything is just sore. I also am still on Roxicet for pain, is it normal to still have pain at this stage? On a up not I've lose 12 lbs in 2 1/2 weeks.... yeah

Welcome to the yeah yeah yeahRedo Wrap Club! yeah yeah yeah Bill (a moderator) is the president of that club here on Healing Well! He's had THREE (and has done very well)!

At 3 weeks, the pain you're describing is TOTALLY to be expected. Even without the detaching of the adhesion, there can be random organ pain due to the fact that the surgeon has to move things around during surgery so he can see what he's doing and get to the surgical site.

Glad to hear you're still taking pain meds. If you need it, take it! Remember that your wrap is still swollen, which can cause discomfort, too.

Redo surgeries are more complex, and it makes sense that you'll take more time to get feeling better. It will happen, though! Hopefully, Bill will check in and notice your thread.

It WILL get better, so hang in there. Glad you've joined the forum! Just keep asking questions/posting your experience right here on your thread. Best wishes!

Welcome to the Redo club!

I was still taking pain meds about 3 months out after my redoes. They have to do a lot more work and with the liver involved there will be pain there also for sometime. Remember the liver does regenerate itself, so there shouldn't be any problems once it's healed all the way.

You are right where you should be with a redo. The fullness and gas and extra pains is just a part of the healing process. Take it easy and be patient. It will get better, but remember this is a marathon and could take 6 months before things really start to feel "normal".

Thank you for your replies, I'm just so impatient. Today wasn't such a bad day, although I still get horrible stomach pains and cramps when I try to eat anything but liquids. Even mushy vegetables or yogurt gives me terrible pains it's like my stomach is protesting solid typ foods, I didn't get anything horribly stuck today....but the stomach pains are still there. I know I wont be able to eat bread or meat for a while, although I did manage some tuna fish on a cracker taking small bites and chewing everything a lot. I'm still bloating especially with dairy products and I am able to burp a little. Baby steps I guess.....hopefully it keeps getting better. I've lost 11 lbs in 3 weeks, not too bad. Lol
