Question i had some blood work and a car scan done i keep having stomach pain and it radiates to my back i was diasgoned with gastritis after a endoscopy and i had gallbladder surgey back in 2008 my gallbladder was removed. My ct scan was normal, blood work was normal also. Does gastritis cause back with stomach pain. Has anyone experience the same pain im having ? I have high anxiety so it worries me even though they told me everything checked out

What exactly do you mean back pain? Do you mean radiating in your central spine or do you mean round your back, like in your lower rib cages almost like if you were to put you hand on the left hand on the left hand side of your body roughly between your belly button and where your rib cages meet in the middle and then imagine the exact opposite on placement on your back, then yes gastritis can cause this. When i flare up its causing me this problem right now. The pain tenderness rather than straight back pain which radiates from the spine, there is a quite a distinctions between the feeling as I have had both.

If you have other medication concerns or worries as to why you might have back pain then consult your doctors, there may be other issues at works here.

Its a cruel disease.

oh I'm sorry i didn't get into detail and yes the pain radiates to my both sides of my back. & exactly what you just said about the pain being in my ribs the pain is opposite to that area in my back. and I've notice that once i eat it goes away but once i get hungry i start getting that pain again like today i woke up with a lot of acid reflux I've been burping a lot of acid omg its so discomforting i took a 20.6 mg of omeprazole with magnesium

I was just surprised that when they did my blood test and cat scan nothing showed up and i even asked the doctor what is causing the back pain all he said that it could be related to the gastritis. but if you have the same pain I'm having i feel more comfortable knowing that someone else has the same pain i do and that i have already been told by a doctor that all my test were normal.
please reply if i made myself a little more clearer with my explanation

Hi,

It sounds like your have back pain from gastritis, specially if it gets better after you eat. Make sure you are always eating, do not go hungry. I am unfortunately got into a bad habit of eating every 1.5 hours and its been like that for 10 months and its driving me INSANE. Its killing me actually having to eat so much and I tried to desperately to increase the eating times but its too difficult. If you can tolerate larger more nutritious meals and increase the times you eat without going hungry then great but don't let yourself go hungry for long periods because the acid will just sit in your stomach irritating it and causing chemical burns and inflammation. Your stomach will expand into its cavity causing this pain

20mg is quite a low dose, unfortunately I cant tolerate PPI so have to deal gastritis without them. They cause me severe problems and hence why i am struggling to heal my gastritis, its causing me real hell right now.

But if 20mg is not enough maybe discuss with your doctors a higher dose or different medication as sometimes one will not work and you can try a different one. But please discuss with your doctor, also try not to get hooked on this stuff as the acid rebound when coming off them can be quite horrible for some anyway, others never experience such problems.

omg i am sorry to hear about your pain :( if you don't mind me asking which medication do you take ? since you don't tolerate ppi which medication have you found that might work for you ? people have told me about ZANTAC? or protonix? and about the rebound omg i remember i stopped taking omperazole for like 2 days and i got so much acid i had to drink a lot of Maalox lol and you are right i sometimes go like 5 hours without a meal and its insane amount of pain. i will try to eat more often maybe liek every 3 hours light meals maybe like half a sandwich and the other half at a later time. GOOD ADVICE

PPI I have tried, are omeperazole, pantoprazole, nexium, lansoprazole and rabeprazole and they all hell. Because of them I could not walk for almost 8 months, could not stand or sit for more than 10-15min at a time and had to be taken to appointments in stretcher towards the 8th month. The stupid doctors kept telling me to keep taking them they are safe, but not for me. I took matters into my own hand and saved my life really. Its a long story but I have written it here several times about it. If they work for you great :)

H2 acid blockers I Have tried, Zantac, famitadine so far. Zantac does not work very well but famotadine is not bad but nothing like effective like PPI but it does not cause some of its stupid problems. They do long terms give me gallbladder problems like PPI but also cause me sever stomach cramping. I am now only going to take famotadine in emergency days, will never take it long terms. Maybe 3-4 days at max now. Anything over a week and they start to make my gallblader hurt.

The medication I am using is suclralfate, it basically fors a protective barrier over the damaged areas in the stomach to stop acid irritating your lining and it does work somewhat but also wears off quick so needs to be taken regular but on empty stomach so timing is very difficult for me. Good thing about this is that it does not get absorbed( 5% max) or metabolized by your liver. Its very inert but some people have sensitivity to its because its aluminum based. Its the only thing I can tolerate and it does help and certainly better than nothing but the problem is that I have not been able to get any for over 7 weeks as its not available in the UK, there is a supplier problem.

Wow thats a terrible story im glad you got off the ppis ive been takin omperazole simce 2008 and they never given me any problems except that the doctor tried to put me on 40mg and it gave me abdominal pain lol so i went back to what i was able to tolerate which was the 20mg and that sucks that uk.doesnt have any. Here in the states its so easy to get any medicatiom doctors pretty much just prescribe it like CANDY LOL. And i had my gallbladder removed im 2008. Have you discuss to your doctor if maybe gallbladder surgey might help you ? Have yoy had any endoscopies done ? Ive bad 2 endoscpies done and both came back with gastritis results

I have had 2 endoscopies done, first one was clear so tried to come of the pantoprazole and the acid rebound was so horendous that it caused gastritis again even though i was cured of it. My stomach went into overdrive and produced so much acid it was scary within 5 hours i was in so much pain and acid relux that by 7am i was back onto pantoprazole. The doctors did not agree with me and tried to feed me some visceral hypersensitive nonsense, I disagreed with their diagnosis. 3 months later after trying all their visceral pain medication nonsense, I pushed for another endoscopy and it confirmed I had rebound gastritis. I decided to come of ppi and deal with it best i can.

My gallbladder problem is from side effect of the PPI and H2 blockers, my body does not like low aicd at all. When i come of the gallbladder pain goes away and returns when i take the meds again. Its quite a repeat patter with them. Also low fat diet for very long periods can cause gallbladder issues. That was a mistake i made when i first had gastritis was to go onto a low fat diet, should of kept some fat in the diet not listen to online website, reduce fat but not stop fat.

Had gallblader scan and no stones or sludge.

I think i am a better doctor to myself and know my body better than GI doctor out there, I am treating my self and honestly even though i am going through tough time currently i am so much happier. Only need to remember how i was 3 months ago to make myself happy when i am down.

are you on omperazole because of acid reflux? you can try nexium 20mg, you might find it more effective than omperazole. Omperazole is composed of or R & S enatiomers of omperazole, Its race mate meaing it comes in a 50-50 mix, with the S being the active ingredient. The R is converter to the S by your body but this conversion is not consistent among people and hence why find nexium much better. Nexium is just the S enationmer. Omperazole game me breathing issues but nexium did not and also nexium was so effective for me and acted fast.

exactly i am on it for acid reflux but like you said i think is not as effective towards the gastritis as it should be and i actually buy the omperzaole over the counter from walmart i just been buying it and buying it i have even told my doctor about it and he says to continue the medication . he actually did want me to take nexium but i told my doctor that i am such a weenie to try new medicine since i have HIGH ANXIETY lol i freak out about every little thing especially if a medication has side effects i freak out with the side effects haha. its hard for me to try new medication even though i know it would help me cope with the some of the symptoms its hard. the low fat diet I've tried it and all its done is cause me to lose weight I'm already skinny as it is with that type of diet i managed to lose 10 pounds from not eating any fat and friends and family members have noticed a decrease in my weight i look like a skeleton lol i am starting to eat some fat in my diet now even though it causes my pain im eating it to atleast gain some of the weight i lost. i don't want to get sick from not eating and being to skinny. below is an image of the medicine that i take. i took a photo of it

and man you know so much about other medication you should just be a GI DOCTOR lol and funny that you say some gi doctors are stupid the doctor that gave me the 40mg omperazole was my gi doctor lol and both my endoscopy came out with mild gastritis in my stomach lining

You could also check into IBS. I get back and rib pains from IBS and getting on a good probiotic and following a LOWFODMAPS diet has helped. The probiotic I use is called Culturelle.

I struggle with gastritis and have stomach and back pain as well. Seems to be common.......

Just want to add here that I had major bloating and gnawing pains for weeks, my final solution was to puree my meals, I'm having pretty good results for several days now. I recommend trying it if you've got major abdominal pain after eating. I'm blending lean meats and a couple vegetables with rice and bone stock.
I still have back pain and frequent urinating at night though, not sure how to remedy that yet.
